CBB North Carolina at Arizona

January 27, 2007

College Basketball - North Carolina Tar Heels (-2, 161) at Arizona Wildcats 1:00 PM EST

Reyshawn TerryThe fourth ranked Tar Heels take a break from ACC action and head to the desert to take on nineteenth-ranked Arizona in a late morning non-conference game local time. If a nice easy flowing contest is the preference, turn on a high school game, because this will be most like an advanced version of the old Pong game, with all the back and forth play.

North Carolina has been truly dominant this season in compiling 18-2 record. The Tar Heels have won by an average of 22.1 points a game, as backers have thrived with 12-5 ATS record. Though many youngsters see plenty of playing time for UNC, the glue is supplied by sophomore center Tyler Hansbrough and senior forward Reyshawn Terry. No matter how easy it appears, the freshmen are going to have moments of frustration and that is when these two step up and assume leadership roles on the floor. North Carolina is one of the top scoring teams in the country at 87.6 PPG and will not slow down for a free wheeling bunch like Arizona.

If coach Lute Olson had to do it over again, he might have scheduled North Carolina A&T instead, with what he is facing in the Pac-10 twice a week. The Wildcats suffered a lost weekend in L.A. and took out frustration on about the only bad team in the conference, in-state Arizona State. Fresh off that 24-point drubbing, Arizona would like to show the world West Coast basketball is awfully good in its own right and deserves far greater recognition.

Leading scorer Marcus Williams will be back in the line-up after being benched for unspecified team rules violation. Arizona should be thrilled after every Pac-10 opponent has gone out of their way to slow down the 'Cats to nearly ten points below season average of 83.4PPG.

Last season Roy Williams baby Tar Heels blasted Arizona 86-69 as three point home favorites at Chapel Hill. Arizona will be looking to turn the tables, where they are 10-1at home and 6-3-1 ATS off a cover. North Carolina is 9-1 ATS in last ten road games and has greater depth to run for all forty minutes.

With both teams having similar numbers in many areas, look for rebounding to be a deciding factor in what should be one of the most entertaining games of the entire weekend.
