College Football Utah at Louisville

October 05, 2007

College Football Preview - (2-3) Utah Utes at (3-2) Louisville Cardinals 8:00 PM EST

Louisville is currently a 14.5-point home favorite with a game total of 61 (dropping from 63.5) at for tonight's matchup.

Brian Brohm, QB for LouisvilleThe Cardinals return home tonight to take on Utah after winning at N.C. State (29-10) last week to snap a two-game losing streak at Kentucky and at home to Syracuse which ending a 20-game home winning streak.

Louisville is averaging a lofty 45.8 point per game (55.3 at home) so far this season with 599.2 total yards per game. Senior quarterback Brian Brohm is leading the air attack with 393.4 yards per game. The rushing attack lead by Brock Bolen is averaging 147.2 yards per game.

Utah comes into tonight's game with an 0-2 record on road this year, losing to Oregon State (24-7) and UNLV (27-0).

Utah's quarterback Brian Johnson is back from a shoulder separation in the season opener and was 18 for 29 and two touchdowns last week against Utah State in a 34-18 win. Utah is 16-2 ATS after playing in-state rival Utah State.

The Utes are averaging 19.4 points per game, mostly due to the shalacking of UCLA at home (44-6). They are averaging 211.6 yards per game passing and just 92.4 on the ground so far this season.

It's pretty clear that Utah is a much different team at home (2-1) than on the road (0-2). Scoring a total of 90 points at home, including 34 last week against Utah State and just 7 total points on the road.

On the defensive side of the ball, Louisville is giving up 38 ppg while Utah is allowing just 19 ppg. Utah is ranked ninth in the country against the pass allowing just 151.6 YPG.

Louisville is 3-2 straight up and 1-3 against the spread, while Utah is 2-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread.

Other Trends of Interest

Utah is 6-4 when playing outside the conference. The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Utah's last 5 games on the road. Utah is 17-8 SU in the last 25 games on the road. Utah is 2-4 SU and ATS in the last 6 games on the road.

Louisville is 21-1 SU in the last 22 games at home. Louisville is 15-3 SU in the last 18 games. 9-1 when playing outside the conference. Louisville is 17-5 against the spread in their last 22 home games.

Sportscapper Island Pick

Seeing how Utah is piss poor on the road this year and that Louisville actually played some defense last week against NC. State, we will side with the home team and lay 14 points. We suggest buying the hook, if possible (.5).

Prediction - Louisville 42 Utah 20
