NBA basketball - L.A. Lakers at Phoenix Suns 3:30 PM EST
The Lakers and Suns have not met since opening night of the 2006-07 season, and both are much different clubs than they were then.
The overall start of the season was very spooky for Phoenix as it started out 1-5, so its no surprise that the Lakers were the victors in the Halloween clash, winning by a 114-106 margin. They shot better than 50% from both 2-pt & 3-pt land in that contest.
However, at this point in the season, this is now a battle of teams going in opposite directions. Though they have rebounded the last week, the Lakers spent much of their month of February trying to figure out which end was up. In fact, at one point, Kobe & Co. lost six straight games.
The Suns meanwhile, have found their rhythm again with the return of Steve Nash from injury, and are looking to close ground on the Mavericks in the Western Conference playoff chase. However, as a home favorite this season, they are covering less than 50% of their games, often times playing to ridiculous spreads.
Something will clearly have to give in this contest as both teams sport impressive records in divisional games. Los Angeles was 6-1 ATS vs. the Pacific before Friday’s game, and Phoenix is 7-2 SU & 6-3 ATS in divisional play.
If this game is anywhere close to double-digits, look for Bryant to will his team into the game as he so often does in front of a national TV audience. Though he may eventually come up short, grabbing the big points figures to give a better chance at the ATS win than the opposite side.
