NBA Basketball - Utah Jazz at Phoenix Suns (-10, 216½) 9:00 PM EST
Besides leading the NBA in scoring by a wide margin, the Suns have also been the best spread-covering team in the league as well, converting at 61.4% clip at the betting window. Ironically they’ve been more effective on the road in that regard, by a 65-57 percent margin. Still, in Phoenix, the Suns boast a 20-3 straight up record, and they haven’t lost in front of the home folks since December 22nd. Despite that success, one of the angles to consider for tonight’s game though is revenge, since Utah handed the Suns two of their first five losses this season, and the teams haven’t played since.
The Jazz team that beat Phoenix twice earlier in the season was a vastly different one that fans are seeing now, due to both lost momentum and injury woes. The latest injury to afflict the club came to leading scorer and rebounder Carlos Boozer, who is expected to miss at least a month due to a knee injury. However, the Jazz played one of their better games in a gutsy home win on Wednesday night vs. San Antonio. In all, Utah was just 8-8 in January, but the defeat of the Spurs is the type of effort that could help restore confidence. For Saturday, add any momentum angles to the fact that Utah is 8-4 ATS asa road underdog this season.
Having been named as reserves to the Western Conference All-star team yesterday, Suns Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion will be anxious to prove their worthiness with a big win against a team that has had their number this season. Whether or not that is enough to cover Saturday’s important number, the pointspread, remains to be seen.
