NBA Basketball - Chicago Bulls at Detroit Pistons (-4.5, 182½) 7:30 PM ET
Chicago is a miserable 3-13 (8-8 ATS) it's last sixteen visits into Detroit, with many of the results being huge double digit losses. Scott Skiles team is trying desperately to move into the second position in the NBA playoffs, to earn home court advantage and avoid the dreaded fifth slot.
With seven games still to go in the season, a win against the Pistons sets up interesting possibilities in the event of a tie with Cleveland. A win would give the Bulls a 3-1 edge in the season series against Detroit and would allow the Bulls to clinch the tiebreaker over Cleveland, should those teams finish with the same record.
The first tiebreaker is head-to-head record and they finished 2-2 with the Cavs, The second tiebreaker is best division record and with a win the Bulls would have completed play in the Central Division with a 12-4 mark. Cleveland stands at 9-5 presently.
Detroit is attempting to lock up the top spot in the Eastern Conference and has a four game lead over Cleveland in the loss column, placing them selves in a strong position to do so.
The Pistons have had nagging problems the entire second half of the season and have persevered. Flip Saunders club easily had the most difficult schedule in the second half in the East, with many back to back games and numerous times of just a single day off.
Chauncey Billups has been in and out of the line-up and the flu bug really stung Rip Hamilton and Chris Webber, through it all Detroit kept winning. The Pistons have won five of six and are 11-4 (12-3 ATS) since March 9, showing tremendous resolve.
Detroit is the third best defensive team in points allowed and is a 4.5-point home favorite over Chicago with a total of 182 at sportsbook.com.
Amazingly Rip and his mates have been one the worst teams to wager on at home with deplorable 14-22 against the spread record for a quality. Perhaps they catch a break as the Bulls have not gotten in done on the road with 16-21 record and 14-23 ATS mark.
In seeking a potential key to tonight's contest consider the Pistons are misfiring with 1-8 ATS in home games when playing against a marginal winning team (Win Pct. 51% to 60%) this season. With one win already in the books this month, April has been awesome for Chicago who is 12-2 ATS in April games over the last two plus seasons.
