Default Alexandra Stevenson

she's making a comeback, foll shoulder surgery. She has looked awful gogin 1-3 and loses to awful opponents.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Alexandra Stevenson got the first victory of her comeback from shoulder surgery by beating Alana Van Dervort 7-5, 6-1 in qualifying at a WTA Tour hard-court tournament.

Stevenson, who in 1999 became the first female qualifier to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon, has been off the tour since having an operation on her right shoulder in September.

Once ranked as high as No. 18, the 24-year-old Californian was 835th in last week's rankings and needed a wild-card invitation for qualifying in Cincinnati.

Van Dervort, a 19-year-old American, is ranked 763rd. Stevenson's next opponent is 463rd-ranked Liga Dekmeijere of Latvia.

Stevenson hopes to receive wild cards for other tournaments on the summer hard-court circuit, including the U.S. Open.

Sh elost today to Liga (463 ranked player!!!) 6-4,6-1. Once she gets these wild cards, she is a serious bet agaisnt. She has stated that she's about 80% healthy--huh? 80%? then why are you playing?
