July 25, Tennis Plays Been quite sick lately and when not sick I've been hammered with work. Here's the 1 play for Monday: 3* Cyril Saulnier +150 over Paul Goldstein (Los Angeles)
+150 here against Paul Goldstein, this was value right from the first eyes laid on it. Can't sway here. Saulnier is a solid player and went 20-14 last year on hardcourt and 4-3 on grass, he's a fan of the faster surface. This year Saulnier has suffered going 0-3 during the grass season and 8-9 on hardcourt? I know he's not a Roddick or Johansson on the hard but the guy does possess a solid service game and a pretty tight forehand (seems a lot of the french guys can say the same). Goldstein has been a sub .500 player all his career but has had great results in recent tournies. Hopefully his 4 matches at Indianapolis and 4 at Newport has fatigued him a little. Saulnier on the other hand has a TERRIBLE streak going (8 straight first round defeats)... he's got to end that sometime soon. Goldstein has a solid record this July but look who he has beaten: Waske, Mergea, Norman, Falla and Lapentti. He beat one quality player in Mirnyi and he lost the first set in that one 6-0 (maybe Mirnyi fatigue?). Seems a good time to strike here on this fine odd. Goldstein was routed by Taylor Dent 6-3, 6-2 (and we know how fatigued Dent was late last week).
