July 27, Tennis Plays Wednesday: 4* Victor Hanescu -175 over Tomas Behrend (Kitzbuhel)
Again, Hanescu is a clay player (going 9-6 so far this year). He made a fantastic run at the French open and it should only help him in his future matches. Behrend 2-4 this year on clay. 5-9, 6-8, 0-1, etc. Behrend has never broken .500 in a clay season either and it's all he plays. I like Hanescu here and I think he shouldn't lose. Behrend has lost 6 straight ATP tour matches. Hanescu has defeated some very great players on clay in Nalbandian and Chela. No prior h2h stats here. 3* Dimitry Tursunov +120 over Juan Ignacio Chela (Los Angeles)
This looks appealing to me. Tursunov is a free wheeling player who goes for winners. In his match with Andy Roddick last week the guy fired many more winners to Roddick, unfortunately had a lot more errors as well. I like his style of play. He's got a big game and can beat anybody on these quick surfaces. I feel Tursunov being a younger guy will get more confident as his career grows but he has some impressive wins so far this year (including beating Henman at wimbledon - the English fans didn't enjoy that too much). Chela is 11-5 this year on hardcourt but he's much more a baseline player and lacks the power needed to truly dominate. Previous years for Chela show 12-11, 18-13, 25-14, he does have a good hardcourt game because he's a good baseliner but anybody who pressures him on the surface can easily defeat him. I'll chance Tursunov here seeing as he's a young power player.
GL!
