Lakers buy NBA Development League franchise | | April 22, 2006

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers have purchased a new team in the NBA Development League.
The team will begin play in November. The team's management, coaching staff and site of its games will be announced later.
The NBA's Board of Governors approved the deal.
"We're happy to have a team of our own and look forward to helping the league continue to grow," said Jeanie Buss, Lakers executive vice president of business operations.
