Default Rickey Henderson returns to diamond

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Former major league All-Star Rickey Henderson has reached an agreement to play with the San Diego Surf Dawgs of the Golden Baseball League.

Henderson, drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 1976 amateur draft, is expected to report to the Dawgs' spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona on Monday.

"Rickey brings a unique mix of these attributes to the Surf Dawgs and our league," Golden Baseball League commissioner Kevin Outcalt said. "His passion for the game is shared by our fans and his many on-field accomplishments set a standard for our younger players."

The 46-year-old Henderson will be entering his 30th season in professional baseball. Henderson, a 10-time All-Star, is MLB's all-time stolen base leader with 1,406 swipes. He collected those stolen bases with the Athletics, Yankees, Blue Jays, Padres, Angels, Mets, Mariners, Red Sox and Dodgers.

"I wanted to be a part of something special and contributing to the launch of a new league was very exciting to me," Henderson said. "I love playing this game and every spring training feels like the first, I am ready to go."
