Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Baltimore Orioles outfielder Sammy Sosa was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an abscess staff infection in his left foot on Tuesday.
Sosa, who has missed five consecutive games, is batting .269 with just four home runs and 13 RBI in 27 games during his first season with the surprising Orioles.
The future Hall-of-Famer is five homers shy of Mark McGwire (583) on the all- time home run list.
The Orioles called up outfielder Keith Reed from Triple-A (Ottawa) to take Sosa's spot on the roster.
