New York, NY (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Phillies leftfielder Bobby Abreu was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday after leading the league in seven offensive categories from May 9-15.
Abreu led the NL in batting average (.583), home runs (6), runs batted in (12), slugging percentage (1.458), on-base percentage (.677), hits (14) and total bases (35).
The well-rounded lefthanded hitter homered in six of Philadelphia's seven games during the week, including five straight, which tied a franchise record held by Dick Allen and Mike Schmidt.
For the season, the 31-year-old Abreu is batting .331 with 10 home runs, 28 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 27 runs scored.
Other nominees for the award included three members of the Houston Astros -- third baseman Morgan Ensberg and starting pitchers Roger Clemens and Brandon Backe.
