Jacksonville St. broke a 20 game road losing streak Thursday at Samford. Tonight they go on the road to play Tenn-Martin. Tenn-Martin has the biggest starting five in the conference at 6'9", 6'9", 6'8", 6'5", 6'5". They avg. 37.6 rpg. while Jacksonville St. avg. 29.0 rpg. Tenn-Martin should control the inside game. Martin's two 6'5" guards Newson and Kelly both avg. 19.6 ppg. Both of these guards are the real deal, they can really play. If Jacksonville St. tries to clog the middle and play the guards straight up Newson or Kelly will win that battle. If they try and play help defense against the guards they'll leave the inside open. This is a very bad match up for Jacksonville St. One last thing. Tenn-Martin is a much better team at home than on the road. TENN-MARTIN -6- TENN. TECH. AT SEMO Last year Tech won both meetings with a 2pt. win at home and a 1pt. win in overtime at SEMO. In Thursday nights 3pt. win at E. Ill. Tenn. Tech. shot 32.5% from the floor and 20.8% from three. They out rebounded E. Ill. 54-42 with 32 offensive rebounds. The rebounds were the key to the win. SEMO and Tech match up pretty even in rebounding with Tech. averaging 1 more per game. The key for SEMO will be keeping them off the offensive glass. These two schools always play good against each other. I took Tech. against E. Ill. Knowing it's hard to cover as a road favorite in this league. I'll gladly take the points in this one. SEMO +4 I might have more later so check back. Time for bed now

I don't know much about Ga. Tech. but if they can't cover this number at home against this team then it'll be a long year for them. I'm sure the refs will be from the ACC so Bruce Price (the king of floppers) wont get the calls for his acting ability. All Ga. Tech. has to do in half court defense is play strong for about 4 passes and Tenn. St. will put it up. Tenn. St. went 3-19 from three in their last game against SEMO. They are VERY IMPATIENT on offense. Ga. Tech must take care of the ball as Tenn. St. will use different presses. GEORGIA TECH. -14-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well this day sure sucked. 0-3 Ga. Tech. 82 Tenn. St. 72, Jacksonville St. 93 Tenn-Martin 84, Tenn. Tech. 79 SEMO 65. In the SEMO game Tenn. Tech. went on a 22-4 run to start the second half and that was pretty much the game. SEMO had alot of shots go half way down and come back out. Once Tech. got comfortable in the game they made everything they threw up. It was like a snowball going down hill it just got worse and worse. Give Tech. credit they played a great game. SEMO's top two scorers had their worst shooting night of the year. This Jacksonville St. team must be alot better than I thought. They shot over 50% from the floor and 35% from three. There were alot of fouls called in this game with Jacksonville St. making 8 more FT than Tenn-Martin. Tenn-Martin did turn the ball over 23 times. I'll back off of Jacksonville St. until I learn more about them. The Ga. Tech.-Tenn. St. game is the one that really pisses me off. Ga. Tech. outrebounded Tenn. St. 40-26, but they let Martin shot 39.1% from three. That's just bad perimiter defense. With 8:14 to go in the game Ga. Tech was up 24 and then just decided to coast and play the subs. OK I'm done venting now. Sorry guys nights like this make me want to start Record now 13-7-1 ytd ![]()
