I just can't turn down 32 points. Tonight SEMO gets back 6'4" freshman Eric Jones from an ankle injury he suffered in the Tenn. Tech. game. He's a very important part of SEMO's rotation. Even though he's a freshman he's our best on the ball defender and best leaper (by far) on the team. He routinely goes over 6'8"-6'9" guys for rebounds and SEMO will need that against a much taller Illinois team. If SEMO holds true to form they'll try and make this a half court game and work the ball for open shots running the shot clock down. Every year SEMO plays 1-2 teams from the major conferences like Arkansas, Oklahoma St., Depaul, Nebraska, etc. I can't remember any of these type games in the last four or so years that SEMO didn't cover the spread. Having said that Illinois is the highest ranked team we have played. One parting item. No matter what the score is this team will NOT quit. They will play the game to the end. Check back latter for updates on other OVC games today. SEMO +32

I believe Tenn-Martin is reverting back to last years trend of not being able to play very well on the road. Their only road win this year was against Morehead which is one of the worst teams in Div. I basketball. Purdue is a lot like Tenn-Martin 5-0 at home and 0-4 on The Friendly Confines The Boilermakers have played much better in Mackey Arena than they have on the road. Below is a comparison of numbers from their five home wins and four losses away from home. HOME STAT ROAD 5-0 Record 0-4 .523 FG% .404 .353 3FG% .296 76.6 Pts-gm 61.5 .402 Def FG% .495 14.6 Asst. per GM 10.3 +9.8 Rebound Margin +0.5 If Purdue can get to the FT line 8-10 more times than Tenn-Martin I believe they'll cover the spread. At home that will happen PURDUE -9

I was looking at this game and the total real hard before I got the following info. It's now a no play until I see how the team will adjust without Price. Just a heads up for anyone considering this game. NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State's men's basketball team will have to overcome a big setback after learning on Monday afternoon that junior guard Bruce Price has been lost for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. It was confirmed on Monday that Price had a torn ACL which occurred in the final minutes of the Tigers' upset bid at Ohio State on Friday night. Price will have surgery the week of January 2. "This is major blow for our team as Bruce was playing well, and has shown a lot of maturity from his sophomore to his junior season," said Tiger head coach Cy Alexander. "He was not only our leading scorer, but our top defensive player on the perimeter. I feel very bad for Bruce. However, he should make a full recovery after a four-to-six month rehabilitation period." Price was leading the team in scoring at 19.3 ppg and also drew the assignment of covering the opponents' top offensive player. He became the 24th player in TSU history to cross the 1,000th point mark last week at Southern Mississippi."

No team likes to lose but I believe Murray's loss at Samford last week will be good for them in the long run. Mick Cronin, Murray's coach, said "we were going down no matter who we played. Samford played hard and I give them all the credit, but we were over confident." Murray's very good on their home floor and after that loss Cronin will have them very focased on this regional rivalry game. SIU is starting to play much better now but I'll lay the small no. on Murray at home. MURRAY STATE -6 (buy the hook)

PURDUE 62 TENN-MARTIN 54 We lost this one in the last min. on a back door cover. SIU 57 MURRAY STATE 53 All I have to say about this game is Murray just got their butts beat. Every OVC coach should get this game tape on how to beat Murray. SIU had a very good game plan. ILLINOIS 89 SEMO 64 Our boys hung with them until about the 8 min. mark of the second half when they just ran out of gas. I've never seen that happen to them before. Oh well we got the cash. I must apologize to everone because I forgot about a key stat in this type of game for SEMO. Whenever SEMO plays a team from the top conferences they ALWAYS play a great first half. When we played at Arkansas and Oklahoma St. we led at the half. In this game Dee Brown hit a 40 ft. shot at the buzzer for Ill. to take a 9 pt. lead at half. 1-2 tonight 18-14-1 ytd
