Default Emerald Bowl Write Up

I just found this write up in another forum. It just strengthens my call on UCLA tonight!!!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

A 13-9 victory over crosstown rival USC that ultimately shook up the BCS system beyond belief was the biggest win for UCLA on the season, despite what happens in the Emerald Bowl versus Florida State.
Those that watched the Bruins season finale win over the Trojans know that UCLAs defense is no joke. If it plays half as good against Florida State as it did in that game then it could be a long day in San Francisco for the Seminoles.
Florida States offense has been as inconsistent as offenses get this season. Unable to decide between QBs Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee, the Seminoles have lacked identity all season. Neither QB has been a desirable option as Florida State is uncharacteristically ranked 73rd in the nation in total offense.
The order will be a tall one on December 27th when either of these two passers face the daunting pass rush of UCLA. Bruins defensive ends Justin Hickman and Bruce Davis have combined for 25 sacks on the season and should wreak havoc on a bad Florida State offensive line.
Unfortunately for the Seminoles their running game has not been able to help out the passing game. Leading rusher Lorenzo Booker has 525 rushing yards on the season with two touchdowns for a Seminole rushing attack averaging 95 yards per game.
Florida State does have some playmakers on the field, such as WRs DeCody Fagg and Greg Carr, but getting them the ball has been a problem all year. This doesnt figure to change considering the entire nation just saw the UCLA defense shut down Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith.
The Bruins offense has by no means been a juggernaut, but head coach Karl Dorrell has his team managing games well enough to get the win. Quarterback Patrick Cowan took over for original starter Ben Olsen (injury) and really came on toward the end of the season.
The sophomore slinger went 4-4 as a starter, with three of his four losses coming against ranked teams Oregon, Notre Dame and California. If it werent for a brief tackling meltdown by the UCLA defense then the Bruins chalk up a win over Notre Dame.
Cowan took a massive hit versus USC and post-concussion symptoms set in a few days after the game. The team has sidelined him indefinitely, but contends that because the game is so far off then he should be able to get back on the field. If the risk is too high then Olsen would get the start for the Bruins. UCLA opened as a 4 ½-point favorite to beat Florida State in the Emerald Bowl with the total set at 41. The Bruins did a solid job of covering the spread this season going 7-4 while the Seminoles were a miserable 4-8 ATS on the season.
