Thumbs up Sunday 1-9 Fight Hunger Bowl

College Football - Fight Hunger Bowl

Sunday, January 9, 2011

(13) Nevada Wolf Pack vs. Boston College Eagles 9:00 ET

AT&T Park - San Francisco, CA

Current Odds at 5Dimes: Nevada -7˝ | BC +7˝ | Total 54

Nevada will have crowd edge; Reno is 4-hour drive from Bay Area, and BC is 3,000 miles from home; Wolf Pack has one of country's best QBs in senior Kaepernick, who is running/passing threat. Nevada beat Boise State/Cal Bears and are 12-1, with only loss at Hawai'i. BYU/Hawai'i were only teams to hold Nevada under 35 points this year- they snuck by Fresno State 35-34 late in the season. Wolf Pack covered three of its last four games as a favorite.

Boston College won its last five games, allowing 16 or less points in all five games, but they were 2-5 before that, not winning a game between Sept 11/Oct 30. Eagles are 0-5 vs D-I teams when they allow more than 17 points. BC has QB issues; they scored less than 20 points in seven of last ten games- they're 3-3 vs spread as an underdog this season. Eagles are 0-4 vs spread in last four bowls, but are 8-4 SU in last 12- they won several bowls in row under current NC State coach O'Brien.

Bowl in Giants' baseball stadium has both teams on same sideline; team that is farthest west won this game four of last five years, with dogs 4-2 vs spread in last six Emerald/Hunger Bowls. Average total in this game the last three years is 37.7.

Boston College vs. Nevada

The Eagles look to build on their 4-1 ATS record in their last 5 bowl games as an underdog. Boston College is the pick (+10) according to Dunkel, which has the Wolf Pack favored by only 7 1/2.

Dunkel Pick: Boston College.

(13) Nevada (12-1) vs. Boston College (7-5)

GAME NOTES: The final bowl game leading up to the national championship is the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, pitting the Boston College Eagles against the Nevada Wolf Pack at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Clearly the key to this matchup will be how well the rushing attack of the Wolf Pack can sustain efforts against the top run defense in the land.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Nevada 31, Boston College 23
