Default Wagerweb MLB Futures

By Dan the Man.
Host of the Sports Edge Radio Show.

As the MLB season passes into the second half of the season, here is a look at the current odds to win the World Series, where these teams are in relation to the opening odds last winter, and which teams have the most value with their current odds.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

DETROIT TIGERS (opening odds/current WagerWeb.com odds): 60-1/2-1: The Tigers opened as 60-1 dogs to win the World Series, and in one of the biggest odds turnarounds of all time are now the favorites to win it all.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX 10-1/4-1: The Sox still have one of the best teams in all of baseball, but find themselves in a dogfight with the Tigers.

BOSTON RED SOX 7-1/5-1: The Sox have the talent and passion to win the World Series, but have to make sure they don't get burned out by trying to hold off the Yankees in the regular season.

OAKLAND A'S 16-1/12-1: The A's are the best team in a wide open AL West, but have little chance or enough overall talent to make a serious run at the title.

SEATTLE MARINERS 75-1/80-1: The Mariners have young talent, but are still a few years away from really contending

NEW YORK YANKEES 4-1/ 5-1: The Yanks opened as the favorites to win it all and now are in danger of missing the playoffs entirely.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS 12-1/30-1: The Angels were the favorites to win the AL West and many people's favorites to get to the World Series. Now the Angels, after a slow start, are trying to make a push just to make the playoffs.

BEST VALUE AT CURRENT ODDS: Red Sox

NATIONAL LEAGUE

NEW YORK METS 15-1/4-1: Hands down the best team in the NL, but will they be able to win it all with most of their team having little playoff experience?

ST LOUIS CARDINALS 6-1/6-1: The Cards have the offense and intangibles to win it all, but the biggest question is do they have the pitching?

CINCINNATI REDS 100-1/22-1: One of the biggest surprises in baseball opened the year as one of the longest shots in all of MLB to win the World Series. With the NL wide open after the Mets, the Reds are a huge value at their current odds.

HOUSTON ASTROS 10-1/12-1: Getting Roger Clemens was a huge boost to the 'Stros, but can they finally get him some run support? If they do, this team could repeat as NL champs.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS 40-1/15-1: Nomar has been on a tear, and Brad Penny and the pitching staff have the depth for the team to make a run.

SAN DIEGO PADRES 25-1/30-1: In the wide-open NL West, the Padres have as good a chance as anyone to win it, but they along with the Dodgers are the only teams in the NL West that have the depth to make a run at the World Series.

BEST VALUE AT CURRENT ODDS: Reds
