Default Double Dip for Monday Night Football

Didn't quite get your fill of Week 1 pigskin yesterday? Then belly-up for a double shot of Monday Night Football action tonight, as the Minnesota Vikings travel to Washington to take on the Redskins, and the San Diego Chargers visit the division rival Oakland Raiders.

In the Monday Night lid-lifter, the Vikings begin the long-awaited task of erasing their troubles from last season. Veteran pivot Brad Johnson has been handed the starting role after Daunte Culpepper was banished to Miami, and Johnson followed up a strong second half of last season with a sparkling preseason as the Vikes look to be a consensus sleeper pick to win the NFC North this year.

On the other side of the ball another cagey veteran will call the shots for the Redskins, as Mark Brunell attempts to propel Washington to success in the incredibly tough NFC East. The big question in D.C. is whether or not star running back Clinton Portis will be able to play after suffering a shoulder injury during the Redskins' first preseason game. Portis is officially listed as questionable for the game, and Ladell Betts will likely get the start at RB if Portis can't go.

Washington is listed as a 4½-point favorite to stifle the visiting Vikings, with the total set at 36.

In the nightcap, the Chargers take on the host Raiders in what promises to be a bitterly contested opening game between the two AFC West rivals. San Diego bade farewell to QB Drew Brees and have placed the offense in the hands of Philip Rivers - of course, all Rivers has to do is place the football in the hands of multi-talented LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers will have a solid chance to win.

Oakland still has Randy Moss but it'll be another new pivot throwing the ball to Moss, as Aaron Brooks is under center after several nondescript years in New Orleans. In the backfield, Lamont Jordan will have to live up to his own expectations right out of the gate if he's to upstage LT and boost the Raiders to a season-opening victory in the official return of coach Art Shell to the NFL ranks.

San Diego is listed as a 3-point road chalk in Oakland with the total set at 43

Game 1 is slated to kick off at 7 pm ET, with Game 2 slated for a 10:15 pm ET start. ESPN will provide the coverage.
