| By Wigington of SCI Forum. As far as we can think back in terms of baseball history, the rivalry between the Yankees and the Red Sox is a classic. Just like the phrase, “ The Yankees had to buy their rings ”. How many times have we heard this? The jealous remarks made towards the New York franchise due to their over eager spending and the lack of a salary cap in baseball. Well guess what Boston fans? It looks like in the year of 2007, you have the same philosophy. The Bean Town ‘Crites in the offseason made a deal with Daisuke Matzsuzaka. $52 million for 6 years. This is for a guy who has not been proven in American Baseball. Sure the numbers are great in the Japanese Leagues, but isn’t baseball truly defined in the States? Not in the aspect of being an American, but it truly is the melting pot where the best players from around the globe play. Dominican dominated, American Baseball is where you prove that you are a professional. $52 million just seems a bit too steep for a pitcher who is not proven. Now rumor has it that there is a deal in the making between Boston and the Chicago White Sox. Chicago wants some of Boston’s top pitching prospects in exchange for Mark Buehrle. Go ahead Boston, take Buehrle. I am sure he is the answer to your problems. Just wait when Buehrle starts tipping his pitches in Fenway, it is going to get ugly. So Boston wants to get rid of potential talent, take a risk on overpaid talent, and welcome the overrated Buehrle with his desire of picking up a bigger contract in Boston while maintaining the drama that is Manny and Schilling. Sounds to me Boston is on their way to “buying their rings”. I guess 26 New York World Series Championships compared to 6 Boston Championships would persuade anyone in due time. |
