| The New York Yankees make it to post season play once again. The price they pay for this almost annual ritual is staggering. At the start of 2007 the opening day roster payroll was $195.2 Million. They paid to play in October, with no second thoughts to pay even more as the season progressed. Well here we are,it is October, the Yanks are in and so are many teams who pay much much less.I guess it's all in the numbers, maybe. The New York Yankees are number one in payroll and here are the remaining contenders and the price they paid. Yankees.. $195.2 Red Sox ..$143.5 Angels.. $109.3 Cubs .. $100.0 Phillies .. $89.4 Indians .. $61.7 Rockies.. $54.4 D-backs ..$52.1 As you can see four teams with payrolls $100.0 Million or more, four teams with payrolls under $100.0 Million. This is when you have to scratch your head and wonder.Nice to see that teams that pay half or almost one fourth what the Yanks pay compete and win! Now we can't forget the teams that are following the Yankees lead and did not make it to the playoffs. New York Mets ..$117.9 White Sox ..$109.7 Dodgers.. $108.7 Mariners.. $106.5 I personally like what I see, good young and old players playing baseball for the love of the game, coming together as a team and making baseball special! To them it's a great game and money is not the only factor, there is much more to it. Good Luck!
