Patriots-Cowboys Is Highest-Rated Regular-Season NFL Game on Any Network Since 1997

Patriots-Cowboys Is Most-Watched Program So Far For 2007-08 Television Season as

29.1 Million Tune In For Week 6 Showdown of “Undefeateds”

CBS Sports’ national game of its doubleheader coverage, highlighted by the New England Patriots remaining undefeated by beating the previously unbeaten Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 14, attracted 29.1 million viewers.

The 29.1 million viewers make it the most-watched NFL regular-season game on a Sunday since November 10, 1996 when 29.7 million viewers watched the Dallas Cowboys-San Francisco 49ers game (FOX).

THE NFL ON CBS’s coverage of the New England-Dallas game is the most-watched program so far for the 2007-08 television season and attracted the most viewers of any program since the finale of “American Idol” (31.2 million; May 23, 2007; 8:00-10:09 PM).

The Patriots-Cowboys game earned an average preliminary national household rating/share of 18.0/34, up 44% from last year’s 12.5/25 in the comparable window (Kansas City-Pittsburgh) and is the highest-rated NFL regular-season game on any network since an 18.0/31 on Monday night, December 15, 1997 (Denver-San Francisco; ABC).


Sunday’s game rating peaked at 20.5/37 from 7:00-7:30 PM, ET.

The game also is the highest-rated program on television since an 18.0/29 for the finale of “American Idol.”
