Default NFL 2010: STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS: SEVEN FROM SUNDAY-WEEK 2

09-20-2010

SEVEN FROM SUNDAY – WEEK 2

A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 19, the second week of the 2010 season.

Quarterbacks MATT SCHAUB (497) of Houston and DONOVAN MC NABB (426) of Washington each passed for 400 yards in the Texans’ 30-27 overtime win. It marked only the fifth time in NFL history that a game featured two 400-yard passers. DAN MARINO (473) and DREW BLEDSOE (421) were the last duo to accomplish the feat (September 4, 1994).

New England wide receiver RANDY MOSS had a touchdown catch in the Patriots’ 28-14 loss at the New York Jets. Moss now has 150 career touchdowns and joins Pro Football Hall of Famers JERRY RICE (208) and EMMITT SMITH (175) and Jets running back
LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON (153) as the only players in NFL history with at least 150 touchdowns.

Since joining the Patriots in 2007, Moss has 48 touchdown receptions in his first 50 games with the club. Moss’ total ranks as the most receiving touchdowns by a player in his first 50 games with a new team (rookies and veterans) in NFL history.

Detroit rookie running back JAHVID BEST rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns and caught nine passes for 154 yards and one TD in the Lions' 35-32 loss to Philadelphia. He is the first rookie in NFL history with at least 75 rushing yards, 150 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a single game. Best is the first player to accomplish the feat since 1981 (JOE CRIBBS).

In his first two career games, Best has scored five touchdowns. He is the first rookie to score five touchdowns in his first two career games since BILLY SIMS in 1980.

Best’s 154 receiving yards are the most by a rookie running back in the Super Bowl era.

· Houston wide receiver ANDRE JOHNSON posted 12 receptions for 158 receiving yards with one touchdown in the Texans’ win. Johnson now has 14 games with at least 10 catches and 100 receiving yards in his career, tying MARVIN HARRISON for the second-most such games in NFL history. Pro Football Hall of Famer JERRY RICE holds the record with 15 games with at least 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards.

San Diego tight end ANTONIO GATES had two touchdown receptions in the Chargers’ 38-13 victory over Jacksonville. Gates, who has 62 career touchdown catches, passed JERRY SMITH (60) and is now tied with SHANNON SHARPE (62) for the second-most TD receptions in NFL history by a tight end.

· The DENVER BRONCOS, who defeated the Seattle Seahawks 31-14, have won 11 consecutive home openers, the longest current streak in the NFL. The Broncos now join the 1976-1988 Miami Dolphins (13) and the 1989-1999 Kansas City Chiefs (11) as the only teams since 1970 to win 11 consecutive home openers.

Green Bay linebacker CLAY MATTHEWS had three sacks in the Packers' 34-7 win over Buffalo. Matthews, who had three sacks in Green Bay's Week 1 victory at Philadelphia, is the first Packer ever to record at least three sacks in consecutive games.
