Arrow Seahawks at Eagles Preview Mon. 12-05

Monday Night the 9-2 Seattle Seahawks come calling on the 5-6 Philadelphia Eagles. The Seahawks survived the last two weeks, winning 27-25 as a 12-point choice at San Francisco and then beating the New York Giants at home in overtime 24-21 as a 4.5-point choice. The two wins ran the Seahawks current win streak to seven although the two non-covers dropped them to 6-5 ATS.

The Seahawks are 3-2 on the road and 2-3 ATS. Besides the win at San Francisco the Seahawks lost at Jacksonville in Week 1 26-14 as a three-point dog and then fell at Washington in Week 4 20-17 as a two-point underdog. They then defeated St. Louis 37-31 as a three-point underdog and Arizona 33-16 as a 4.5-point choice so the Seahawks have won their last three on the road.

Meanwhile Philadelphia defeated Green Bay last week at home 19-14 as a four-point favorite to snap a four-game losing streak and a streak of six straight non-covers. The Eagles are 4-1 at home and 2-3 ATS. Besdies the win over Green Bay they defeated San Francisco in Week 2 42-3 as a 13-point choice and Oakland a week later 23-20 as an 8.5-point favorite.

They then came off a bye to defeat San Diego 20-17 on a late blocked field goal return for a TD but did not cover a four-point spot. They then lost to Dallas in Week 10 on Monday Night when Cowboys' safety Roy Williams returned a Donovan McNabb interception for a late TD and a 21-20 win. The Eagles were favored by 3.5 in that contest.

The Eagles and Seahawks have not played since the 2002 season when the Eagles went to Seattle late in the year and scored a 27-20 win as a field goal favorite. Seattle held the total yards edge 395-316 but turned the ball over three times to once for the Eagles.

The Eagles rank 4th in the NFC in offense at 350.6 yards/game. They have scored 229 points and allowed 246 though as their defense has fallen to 12th in the Conference at 330.1 yards/game.

Seattle has scored 296 points on the year and allowed 208. It ranks 1st in the Conference on offense at 386.1 yards/game and 13th in defense at 331.6 yards/game.

The Seahawks 9-2 record has them one game ahead of the Chicago Bears for best record in the NFC. With a win they will match the franchise record for consecutive victories, eight, established by the 1984 club.

Last season, Philadelphia enjoyed a seven-game winning streak en route to the Super Bowl. But with Donovan McNabb sidelined for the season and Terrell Owens banished from the team, the Eagles are just trying to stop the bleeding. Mike McMahon filled in at QB for McNabb last week and Brian Westbrook ran for 117 yards and a touchdown. It was Westbrook's first 100-yard game since Week 4 of last season against Chicago. It also marked the first game in which the Eagles ran the ball (34) more than they passed it (28) this season.

"The games have been a little closer and it's given us more opportunities to call some more running plays," coach Andy Reid said.

Shaun Alexander again carried the load in Seattle's win over the Giants, rushing for 110 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. He leads the league with 1,339 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns, seven shy of tying Priest Holmes' NFL record set in 2003. Alexander has four straight 100-yard games and eight this season while QB Matt Hasselbeck has a QB rating of 88.8 on 62.6% completions, 2606 yards, 14 TDs and eight INTs.

Will it be the Seahawks or Eagles in this one? The Seahawks are favored by 3.5 points with a total of 44.5. And, remember, before you get down on this contest, don’t miss out on the Experts Guaranteed Selections. At Vegas Experts you only pay after you WIN!
