Reason: It is rare this early in the season when we get to deal with a
"Plus Plus" - that is, taking a team +1.5 runs, and also getting them
at
an underdog price to boot. And it is even more rare when a team, and
starting pitcher, with the form that the Yankees are and Randy Johnson
bring to tonight's game find themselves as this range of favorite.
Therefore we have to play.

Yes, the Royals are nothing special. But off of a win in the first
game
of the series, and with the hiring of Buddy Bell as manager finally
ending all of the speculation and allowing the players to get down to
business, we can count on a good effort. The rest is all about the
Yankees.

New York enters this one on a three-game losing streak, a .500 road
record for the season, and just a 27-24 overall mark. Johnson may be
2-1
in his last three starts but he showed very little in that span,
allowing 28 hits over 18 2/3 innings in that span, with only eight
strikeouts. We are not going to take the time to call the folks at
Elias, but we are pretty confident that he has never had a three-game
stretch in his career where the ratio of hits to strikeouts was 3.5:1.
He may have been credited with a win against the Red Sox last Friday
but
it was another game in which he had nothing - 13 of the 30 batters
that
he faced reached base; and for the season he shows a 5.49 ERA on the
road.

With what the pinstripes really bring to the table tonight we have
quite
simply the wrong price range here, and while we can not trust the
Royals
to make the plays needed in the late innings to win it outright, we
can
take the cushion offered by the Run Line in a game they should be in
all
the way.
