Cincinnati Reds at St. Louis Cardinals 8:10 PM ET

Cincinnati Reds (Harang) +129

St. Louis broke out of its offensive funk by putting up a dozen against the Cubs in extra innings on Sunday but that momentum was killed with a day off on Monday. Just the opposite for the Reds who were completely shut down by the Phillies over the weekend as they scored just six runs in the three-game series while hitting a combined .161. The day off helped Cincinnati in this case. The Cardinals are just 1-6 at home this season while the Reds are 3-3 as the pitching has carried them.

After two straight rough performances, Aaron Harang pitched a gem last time out against the Astros as he allowed just one run on three hits in six innings. He was pegged with the no-decision as the bullpen could not hold down the lead. The pen allowed one run in his previous three starts so it certainly is not a common thing. He was hit hard by the Cubs in his lone road start this season but pitching outside of Cincinnati was great to him last season as he posted a 2.98 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 17 road starts.

Kip Wells has been surprisingly sharp for the Cardinals although his last outing was his worst of the season so far as he gave up five runs in six innings against the Giants in a 6-2 loss. He has been somewhat of a tough luck pitcher as the Cardinals have scored two runs or less in three of his four starts which all ended up being losses. That offensive non-production could very well continue here but don’t expect Well to keep the good pitching going as he is 2-8 with a 4.45 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 17 career starts against Cincinnati.

The power explosion by St. Louis last time out actually sets up the Reds for a solid situational play. Play against all teams with a money line of -100 to -150 after a game they hit four or more home runs, with a bullpen that has posted a 1.20 WHIP or less over the last 10 games. This situation is 45-19 against the moneyline (70.3 percent) over the last 5 seasons with the average run differential being +1.6 rpg over those 64 games. The Reds get the better pitching performance and take the opener on Tuesday. Play Cincinnati Reds 1 Unit
