| I am not happy with the Phillies trade today. Getting rid of Bobby Abreau and pitcher Cory Lidle. Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but going into tonights game, we are only 5.5 back in the wildcard standings. To give up Bobby, I understand the financial part of it, but a starting pitcher right now is not smart. And I have heard talk about John Lieber going as well. What are they thinking? I think it is a little to early to give up on the season. Maybe I am wrong, I don't know. What do you think? I would love to hear some opinions from people who are not Phillies fans. |

| Mark, I would have to agree with you, it seems that they are giving up on this season and they have a lot of baseball to be played and ONLY 5.5 back in the wildcard. I am not a Phillies fan, but, I thought it was kinda funny when I heard the trade they made. Especially with all of the injuries they have had.

| I don't like what the Phils got in return from the trade because I thought they could of gotten a solid 2 or 3 pitcher for Abreu, but by getting rid of him, it allows Victorino to start in left and probably lead off, at least I hope so. The moves Gillick has made in the last couple of days is clear that the Phils want to "go young" and start a new nucleus around Utely and Howard. Bobby is making alot of money and is slumping right now, Lidle is a servicable 4 but nothing special. I think Victorino will fit in fine and give us some speed on the bases and in the outfield along with Rowand. The Phils are actually playing better without Abreu for the 3 games now I wouldn't be suprised to see Burrell go next this offseason.I'm just happy the Phillies got rid of Franklin today. Gillick will most likely get rid of the whole pitching staff except for Myers and Hamels and start over. Pretty much what they need to do anyhow. The Phillies are only 5 games back of the wildcard, but I really didn't think they would make it very far with the team they had 3 days ago. Better to start with what they are going to do now, so they are in better shape for next year. As for the Yankees, I think the trade was good for them on what they are trying to do this year, make the playoffs. Also, Sheffield is probably gone now by this move. |

| The Phillies also have the $20 Million from Abreu's contract, which I hope they use on a solid pitcher or 2 and if one of the 4 minor leaguers pan out, I think it could be a good trade afterall. With the pitching staff the Phillies have now, whoever thinks they could make the playoffs and a run in it to boot is drunk. I'm a die-hard Phillies fan, but I also know this year isn't their year. Too many questions right now, especially the pitching staff. |

| as far as whether the trade was good or bad for philly is tough to say bc no one knows how good these kids they got will be or if they ever will even make the majors or have an impact, time will tell....from a salary perspective its a good move...abreu is not worth the $$ he is getting paid and to get rid of that bloated contract is a smart move...lidle is nothing special, on most staffs he would be a no 5 starter or in the bullpen so losing him i dont think is a big deal....i know you all say they are only 5.5 back of the WC, but this nucleus had been around a few yrs and not gotten it done and werent showing any signs of doing anything this yr either, it was time for a change.....abreu was def on his way out, who knows if they could have gotten anything better for him, i would assume not bc if there were better trades on the table philly prob would have made it...i dont think w his salary there was as much interest in him as they hoped...only a handful of teams inquired about him and even fewer were really serious. all in all, decent trade on the surface for philly, but time will tell when these prospects either pan out or dont

| I know I am a fool, but I still have hope. Wouldn't it be something if the phils made the playoffs after unloading some players? Who knows, they still have today to get rid of a few more. Should be a fun day with it being the last day for trades. I am still hoping Gillick gets us a starting pitcher somehow for this year. |
