| Every once and awhile I like to look back at some classics and see if I can remember what I was up to when they happened. This date was a winner, since I am a Philly fan. May 17,1979. Phils are playing in Chicago, the wind is blowing out and Mike Schmidt wins the game in the 10th inning with his second home run of the day. There were eleven home runs hit that day, the Cubs had six and the Phils belted five. Dave Kingman and Bill Buckner for the Cubs, combined for thirteen RBI's. Kingman hit three home runs and six RBI's and Buckner a grand slam and seven RBI's. Bob Boone had five RBI's and Larry Bowa five hits for the Phillies. Mike Schmidt's home run to win the game, came off of Bruce Sutter. Both teams combined for 97 total bases, 21 different players scoring and 47 extra bases. In what seems to be typical 'Philly' fashion, the Phils were winning 21-9 going into the bottom of the sixth. They could not hold the lead and the game goes into extra innings before they can finish the job. Final score on May 17,1979 Phillies 23 Cubs 22. Good Luck!

| Absolutely no pitching in this game. I was 2 years old during '79, so obviously I didn't watch this game, but that's a crazy score nonetheless. Thanks for sharing OH... |
