I was sitting on pins and needles though in the bottom of the 9th inning. I had $200 (win $270) on the Brewers RL. Brewers are up 2, Pittsburgh has runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. Turnbow and the Brewers get out of it without giving up any runs and perserving my RL victory. My stomachs is in poor shape though after eating at George Webb's after the game (burger special with ticket stub) and I just beat though tonight, hence no writeups with the plays. | Copying of some stuff I posted over at the Canadian site, figured it could possibly help some people over here as well. Quote:
Dad - Like I said Corey Hart was drafted as a first basemen. He's 6'6 about 210 pounds, with 30 steal potential (Derek Lee type frame). When the Brewers drafted Prince Fielder they tried moving Hart to 3rd base. That experiment didn't work too well, as his big frame was a bit too akward with his footwork fielding. He can play there in a pinch, but would get exposed if he was there for more than a few games a month. They moved him to the corner outfield spots in the minors as a future replacement in right field. Then they traded for Carlos Lee, Jenkins went to right field and Corey was blocked again. That said, if either of those two are traded/injured Corey Hart should be able to step in for them. Late last season Hart was filling in a bit for Brady Clark in center field. It's weird seeing a guy that big playing center, but he's definately an athlete. I personally wouldn't be too sad to see him playing in center instead of Clark, but then you have the problem of who's going to be your leadoff batter (Weeks would be the only candidate, but he has too much power to be hitting in the one spot). I agree that Prince will be pulled sooner than later, but I think they also need to keep his confidence up. When he came up to bat for his 5th at bat in the game Tuesday night, the crowd gave him a standing ovation. I think he's pressing way too much. He's trying to replace a fan favorite with a ton of expectations on him. It's been 2 games. The first game he was swinging at ball at his eye level. Tuesday he was at least swinging at good pitches. His last at bat he made some pretty solid contact on a flyball out to center field (first time he got it past the pitcher this year). Long term the Brewers have no one who could replace him at first base if he turns out to be a dud, which realistically isn't going to happen. As for who can fill in where for short term/semi long term? Well lets assume you have a starting infield of Fielder 1st, Weeks 2nd, Hardy SS, Koskie 3rd. Bill Hall can come in and play at 3rd, SS, or 2nd base (in spring training he was also playing center field). They're expecting him to get 450+ AB's this year, so expect him rotating around alot. Jeff Cirillo has always been a 3rd basmen (has been an All-Star there), but in spring training they were playing him at 2nd base and he's also a fine fill in at first base. Corey Hart can also do spot duty at 3rd base and at 1st base. Gives a lot of flexibility around the infield. If Prince Fielder is benched I would assume that Corey Koskie would get the chance at first base (if it was a somewhat long term). In the short term, I think Jeff Cirillo would probably get the start at 1st base (possibly tonight, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was Koskie right away). Infield depth looks something like this... 1st Base - Fielder, Koskie, Cirillo, Hart 2nd Base - Weeks, Cirillo, Hall Short Stop - Hardy, Hall 3rd Base - Koskie/Hall, Koskie/Hall, Cirillo, Hart In the outfield you have: Carlos Lee in left Geoff Jenkins in right Brady Clark in center Corey Hart will be the 4th outfielder at any of those position. Gabe Gross can play either corner outfield spot and provide power off the bench. He led Spring Training in home runs in 05'. If something else happens with an outfielder the Brewers have Nelson Cruz in the minors who's capable of being a 30 home run kind of guy. Reminds me of Carlos Lee a bit. Pretty sure the Brewers picked him up in a Keith Ginter trade a few years ago to Oakland. The starting pitching is a bit more of a question mark. They have an expected rotation of: Ben Sheets Doug Davis Chris Capuano Tomo Ohka Dave Bush and their relievers look like this: Derrick Turnbow - closer Matt Wise/Danny Kolb - 7th/8th Jose Capellan - future closer (was Braves top prospect traded for Kolb) Jorge De La Rosa - lefty specialist (was Arizona's top pitching prospect, received in the Richie Sexson trade) Justin Lehr - Flame thrower, could replace Kolb as late game replacement Rick Helling - long relief, possible 5th starter Jared Fernandez - He'll be sent down/released when Sheets comes off DL Long term, the Brewers have future #2-4 starting pitchers in Dana Eveland and Zach Jackson (Blue Jays prospect received in Overbay trade) are both 22. Dennis Sarfate is 25 and is knocking on the door to the Brewers rotation if Ohka or bush struggle. Three legit guys right there. The Brewers also have three young guys in the low minors all with #1 type stuff in the future years to look forward to. Yovani Gallardo, Mark Rogers, and Will Inman are all 19-20 year old guys in A or high A ball. Some of more recent top draft picks out of highschool. Manny Parra is only 23, and could very easily become a 15 game winner in the majors, although he could easily be a bust like any of these other young pitchers. Josh Wahpepah (2/3rd round pick a few years ago) is 21, and had a 3.28 Ground/fly ball ration at West Virginia, which projects really good for Miller Park. It's hard to project, but they have the guys there. One last name to toss out there is Rolando Pascual. I'm going to stick my foot in my mouth here I'm sure, but he's 6'6 and 16 years old. He was signed out of the Dominican Republic and could very easily be a guy like Felix Hernandez. His fast ball is amazing. Might be 17 now. The Brewers also have Ryan Braun at 3rd base who as their #5 draft pick last year, projects to be there starting 3rd basemen by 2008 at the latest. Hernan Iribarren is a Marcus Giles type 2nd basemen, who could allow the Brewers to move Richie Weeks to center field, especially with the down slide of Dave Krynzel (A former Futures Game starter in center field) who messed up his collarbone/shoulder in a Mini-bike accident over the winter. Other guys I haven't mentioned yet: Angel Salome - 19 year old catcher (5th round pick in 04') who has Pudge Rodriguez type build and is a very good defensive catcher with power numbers. Needs to work on consistency at the plate and handling pitchers. Ben Hendrickson - 25 year old pitcher, was spose to be the #4/5 guy the last two years. He's pitching in AAA as everytime he comes up he gets rocked. Last chance to prove himself this year as he's running out of option years. Brad Nelson - 23 year old 1st basemen in AAA. Was moved to the outfield the same as Corey Hart when Prince was drafted, just moved back to 1st base this year. Was a 4th round pick in 01'. Power to places all over the field. Defense shaky. Blocked almost everywhere. As late as last year him and Corey Hart were considered 1a - 1b as terms of guys who would be the next guy called up. Alcides Escobar - Probably the most unknown rising star in the Brewers roster. Plays SS and is only 19 years old. Reminds me of Rey Sanchez type of guy. A couple good years from him, but he does have major league ability/projection. Centerfielders - It's crazy to think about what's available through the system. Steve Moss is 22 and by far the best defensively in the minors in the outfield. Michael Brantly is an 18 year old cf who was drafted in the 7th round last year, but could have been a #1 pick if he came out after his junior year of college. Charlie Fermaint was a 4th round pick in 03' in A+. Excellent arm and power... Last is our AAA CF, Tony Gwynn Jr. He was the Brewers 2nd round pick in 03'. He's got the size, speed, and eye to be a solid starter in the league. No power really, but definately a gap hitter. Future leadoff/cf??? Alright, I'm spent here now. Could go off about a few more guys, but I'm done. lol... God I love my Brewers!

The next game the Brewers play is next Monday against the Cardinals, in St. Louis. I'm thinking it will be Okha against Mulder. Have to take Stl. RL in that game. They both have an off day on Tuesday, so you'd assume on Wednesday you'd have marquis/suppan vs. Davis. On Thursday I'm thinking Carpenter vs. Capuano. I'll take Stl monday/Thursday if the numbers are there. Wednesday I'll probably take the Brewers. forgot one thing and that's Ben Sheets is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday 4/9... He's pitching in AA on Thursday (weather concerns in AAA), so I could also see him starting Wednesday. Don't see him pitching on 3 days rest coming off an injury, but Wednesday would look good if everything goes okay tomorrow. Alright I've got to post my NBA plays here. GOOD LUCK with the plays tonight everyone! so far today 2-2 +$0 Oh NBA plays tonight as well.... $75 Boston +1 $50 Toronto +10.5 $100 Philadelphia -3 $125 Bucks +3.5 $200 Cleveland -7.5 & $150 Cleveland 1H -4 $75 San Antonio -8 & $50 San Antonio 1H -4 $100 Houston -4
