Johnson, who survived a rocky start to defeat an offensive-minded Toronto team in his last start, hasn't had an easy time against the Rays. The veteran left-hander has losing records against four teams during his 17-plus seasons and Tampa Bay is one them. He was 0-1 with a 6.46 ERA against the Devil Rays last year and 2-3 against them during his career. Waechter pitched 5 1/3 innings against the Red Sox on Saturday and did not give up a run until the sixth inning. He left the game with two on board leading 4-1, but the Rays could not protect the lead and he was credited with a no-decision. Waechter has a 1-4 record with a 5.53 ERA in eight career appearances against the Red Sox.
