Charlie Batch play a good game last week and I thought he should have had a chance in the 4th quarter tonight. Then I listen to Bill cowher in his post-game interview and he says Big Ben was not feeling well and running a fever before the game tonight, so why in the hell would you NOT BRING IN BATCH and see if he could pull the game out. I just don't get it!!! I remember years ago when backups were brought in and pulled games out in the end, so why is today any different than 20 years ago???

| I hate the steelers, but I really like Cowher. I agree Nick, why would not not put Batch in under those circumstances? Steelers deserve to lose that game last night due to some unusually poor coaching. |

| Why? Has everything to do with today's players compared to those 20 or more years ago. With #1 Qb's making on average 6-7 times as much money as their back ups, and in light of the star system which has taken over team sports in which superstars are sought out and identified as early as freshman yr of high school, the biggest concern any NFL coach has regarding his team is ego. If you bench your starter you may pull a win out of the fire but you introduce a whole hornet's nest, ie the great QB controversy, that can and most often does turn a locker room into mine field. As a consequence teams more often opt for the 3 yrs and your out scenario these days preferring to coddle their talent and keep competition to a minimum. Sadly it's brought us an inferior product in many ways with too many players chasing the record books and glory over championships. They all talk about wanting a ring but when you look at their actions up close you notice all to often that most modern players prefer to be starters on middle of the road teams to a diminished role on a champion.
