Well, if it becomes law then maybe I will think different. Until then, it's the same as it's always been for me.

Well, Tommy thats fine, but, I had over 17 DIMES in 3 sportsbooks and I was not taking any chance that they would arrest me and take my money I had online. I know that if you are arrested for internet gambling that they can and will confiscate any funds you have online.

HERE is a post I found in another forum:

Neteller guys arrested
---------------------------

Online money transfer firm NETeller said on Tuesday two of its founding shareholders - Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre - had been detained by U.S. authorities on Monday.
Gambling911.com first broke the story Monday afternoon. Reuters reported Tuesday on the shares being suspended.

NETeller said neither Lawrence nor Lefebvre had any current position with or connection to the company, other than as shareholders.

It also said the group (NLR.L: Quote, Profile , Research) had not received any communication or correspondence from any U.S. authority regarding the matter and the board had sought immediate temporary suspension of its shares.

and my responce to the post:
-----------------------------

I'd say they were a little more than shareholders. If you could arrest someone for holding shares in a company, no one would buy any shares. These 2 guys were probably the CEO and president of the company Neteller. Besides, I know there are many more shareholders in neteller than just 2 people.

Yeah Nick. I know about it. They were the founders of Neteller, just not shareholders. They did not get arrested just for being shareholders, but what they did in the past when they were the owners I assume.

To your reason for pulling out online: I'm not condoning anyone do what thier not comfortable with doing. If you feel your funds are threatened, by all means. I feel the pressure too, maybe just not as much I suppose.

I would suggest anyone who has money online to be very aware right now, especially if it involves large funds. Keep your money in the reputable books that if close down will pay your money, IE Pinnacle.

Ya know Tommy, If I had a couple of dimes online it would not bother me as much. But, I am not willing to gamble like that with my money, I lose and have NOTHING to win even if I win. That would piss me off as much as I have lost this year to maybe win 10 dimes in the last 3 games or more and then get it confiscated. I CANNOT take that kind of chance where I have nothing to win and maybe lose all. To me that would be a stupid move on my part, I could see me sitting here after it is all said and done and my money is tyaken and I say Nick, you were so stupid to sit here with the info you had and not take your money out of harms way.

They have not arrested one person for betting online as far as I know. It is not a Federal crime and the new law doesn't have anything written in it to suggest it either.

Like I said before, If you don't feel comfortable and are uneasy doing anything in life, then don't. I know I won't.

Tommy, that is all fine and good, but, what I am talking about is not a book closing but, a person getting arrested for online gambling and gettting their money confiscated. It is totally different from what you are talking about. I had no qualms about not getting my money if a book closed, but, confication is another dog. Trust me if the FBI arrest you for online gambling they will know everywhere you are betting and go in and take the money you have and there won't be a damned thing anyone can do about it!! That will be done just before they come and get you. Trust me the FBI is not stupid. You know how much money they will get from conficating peoples accounts online when they are arrested??? PLENTY and they will get it too!!!

Thats just like a drug dealer being arrested, they take his home and car (s) when he gets arrested and maybe if he has any property or just anything of value.

I understand Nick. I'm in no way trying to change your mind lol. If I came off like that I'm sorry and need to say things in a different way.

I would worry alot more about a shady book getting pressure from the DOJ, crumbling and keeping your money than anything to do with gamblers directly.

Nothing has changed legally about individuals who bet online from 10+ years ago, it is the same as it's always been. Nothing suggests otherwise.

I know they don't have any laws about it now, but, my brother does not even gamble but, he stays up on things and happenings and he said that they are going to try and get a law passed for internet gambling. we will probably here about it in time, but, what if they know that it is going to get passed and have everyone lined up when they make it a law??? By the time you can say beep you are done for.

The new law is to diminish the money flow to online gambling sites and increased the penalty of taking bets online illegally within the US.

I'll take to my brother again, but, I am sure he said, they were going to target everyone, not just the online sportsbooks. I don't follow whats going on in the country or the world for that matter, it's all the same shit everyday, killings, drugs and major floods or sunami's, storms and many, many people are dying. all that is depressing to me.

Your saying the Feds could go into a book and just take your money out? I guess the Feds own the books then.

Hope ya all don't mind my getting in on this. What the Gov't did today was their response to the new gaming law. They nailed a major on line site a few months ago,and now a major financial concern. In both cases they arrested these people in the U.S., on U.S. soil. They are simply testing the water to see who fights them and takes it through the Courts.Once it goes through the courts they will decide how much more to push it. In the Book case they have them nailed to the wall. In this case I do not think so.
Like so many other things Bush and his boys do, it is one more SCARE TACTIC
to keep us on edge.We keep losing our freedoms thanks to this President. Someone will step up soon to stop him.
As far as INTERNET gaming I don't blame anyone from spreading their money around to locals. I personally do not keep a bunch of cash on any one book on line. Withdraws are constant when I win. I take them down to what I will need for the next week.My local gets cash and I accept no credit from him. A lesson learned the hard way many years ago.
Bottom line,my accounts on the net stay, just not heavy,I enjoy the ease of using the INTERNET,and until they pull the plug that is how it will be.
Nick and Big,take it easy and enjoy whatever you enjoy. Life is WAY TOO SHORT!

Good Luck!

Tommy, anytime people get arrested and are doing illegal shit they will take your home if you are selling drugs out of it. I'll make a wager with you. They did it to my cousins neighbor in Baton Rouge. They took his car and home and they have a law that allows it. ANYTIME you are conducting illegal activities they can and will take your possessions. They claimed he had paid for his cvar and house with ill-gotten gains from selling drugs, not only that but, the IRS came in and they did a number on this guys for not paying taxes on the ill-gotten gains.

I don't know who told you that was bogus, but, you had better get online and start checking. Where do you think the Government gets all of these homes and cars and speed boats and other boats that t5hey sell at auctions????? They take them when they arrest individuals for selling drugs and other illegal activities such as bookmaking.

Go to a search engine and type in (government auctions)

HEAD, I don't mind you expressing your opinion thats what forums are for. I am taking it easy, but, I trust what my brother tells me, I have made about a 1/2 million dollars on his advice in the stock market. He would never steer me wrong and the reason he told me what he did was because, I told him how much I had at 1 time in online sportsbooks and he told me to be careful. So I am just listening to my brother again. I could never pay him back for his information he has given to me in the past. I call him my stock broker!!!

Tommy, They get federal injunctions to freeze bank accounts and there is not a damn thing that the books can do about it, well they could if they wanted to break the law and go against a federal injunction and go to jail. You are going to tell me you have never heard of the feds freezing someones bank accounts while they are under investigation???? After it is proven that they aquired this cash by some ill-gotten means then they will seize the property whether it be cash or cars or homes or boats or anything else of value.

I hope you understand how it works now!!!

I understand what your saying Nick. I know the Gov. may do whatever they want that they see fit, but someone solely making money off distribution (selling) of an illegal product or service is ALOT different than someone just buying or using that service.

What you are doing now is no different then gambling in Vegas or buying a lottery ticket at your corner market, which I may add that some go for $20 bucks a pop and rolls a mile long.

From what I've read and heard, the Gov. is trying to diminish the transactions and money flow for funding online gambling sites. Has really nothing to do with the gambling aspect itself.

The scary part of this is not the Gov. knocking down everyones door for gambling online, but the pressure they put on books and other services for funding, thus making the books crumble from lack of options and either stop taking US customers or closing down completely, taking everyones money with them.

Tommy, Every Online book that I have signed up with has a clause in their RULES that tells each and every player that signes up to contact their LOCAL LAW INFORCEMENT and see what the laws are, well I am not about to call and ask the police about the law, because, I already know it is ILLEGAL TO MAKE SPORTS WAGERS ONLINE HERE IN LOUISIANA. So I know I am breaking the LAW by betting SPORTING EVENTS online. That would be very stupid for someone to call their local police and ask if it is OK to bet sporting events on your computer, the 1st thing they are going to ask is where do you live and what is your name. So by all rights, if I were to get busted for making wagers online I could lose several rental properties I have valued at well over 1.5 million. That my friend is one reason why I have cleaned out all of my accounts and don't wager online anymore. I stand to lose way too much to continue wagering online where there is a record of it. My friend is bringing some kind of device over and clear out my harddrive for me so there is no record of any illegal activities. I may just get another harddrive and just burn this one.

Also, about 20 years ago Louisiana passed a law and it is mandatory 5 years and a hugh fine for booking race horse wagers on a 1st offense. So whether you are betting sporting events or selling drugs IT IS ILLEGAL and therefore anyone doing it has a lot to lose. I am going to call my attorney monday and ask him if I can lose my home for making illegal wagers from here on my PC.
