| NFC News 'N' Notes -- Week 6 2007, Week 6, 10/09/2007 NFC NEWS ‘N’ NOTES ROMO SHINES ONE YEAR LATER What a difference a year makes! At this time last season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback TONY ROMO had yet to throw a pass in his NFL career. Today, the five-year veteran from Eastern Illinois has guided the Cowboys to a 5-0 record while leading the NFC with 13 touchdown passes and ranking second with 1,508 yards. "Each step has been good,” says Romo. “As a backup, you're trying to get on the field and get better. When you do get on the field, it feels normal. That's what you work yourself up for – to be successful. “Like anything, you learn from the experiences you have. Last year was the first time I was in a position to see things and react to them. Now I can see it, and something quick in my brain says, ‘I’ve seen that before. I did it wrong last time, don’t do it again.’” This Sunday, when the Cowboys host the 5-0 New England Patriots in a showdown of two unbeatens, Romo will make his 16th career start. He has led Dallas to a 11-4 (.733) record in his 15 starts, compiling a 95.4 passer rating by completing 305 of 481 passes (63.4 percent) for 4,149 yards with 29 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Those numbers have turned Romo into a fan favorite in the Big D, where two other Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks – ROGER STAUBACH and TROY AIKMAN – made their mark. “He’s going to be as good a quarterback as the Cowboys have ever had,” says Staubach, who led Dallas to four Super Bowls, including two wins. “He is going to be a championship quarterback in this league.” Aikman, who guided the Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories and currently serves as an analyst for FOX, agrees. “He’s a tremendous talent,” says Aikman. “I think he’s going to be a successful quarterback in the NFL for a long time.” As Romo makes his 16th NFL start this weekend, a look at how Dallas’ Hall of Fame quarterbacks did in their first 16: PLAYER YEARS ATT.
