| What To Look For -- Week 7 Week 7, 2007, 10/17/2007 YO, ADRIAN: Minnesota Vikings rookie running back ADRIAN PETERSON leads the NFL with 607 rushing yards, including a franchise-record 224 last week at Chicago. The first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma is averaging 121.4 yards per game and is on pace for 1,942, which would be the most by a rookie in history (ERIC DICKERSON; 1,808 in 1983). Peterson also is attempting to become only the seventh rookie since 1950 to lead the league in rushing yards. Following are the rookies to lead the NFL in rushing since 1950 and the top seasons all-time by a rookie running back: ROOKIES TO LEAD NFL IN RUSHING SINCE 1950 PLAYER TEAM YEAR ATT. YARDS AVG. The 10-year veteran will make his 150th career start on Monday night when Indianapolis visits Jacksonville. Manning already ranks at or near the top of many key passing categories among quarterbacks in their first 150 starts. Washington’s CLINTON PORTIS has rushed for 100 yards in 45.2 percent of his games (33 100s in 73 games) and Arizona’s EDGERRIN JAMES has a 100-yard performance in 53 of 118 games (44.9 percent). Since then, six others have reached the 100-TD plateau. Seattle Seahawks running back SHAUN ALEXANDER has 98 rushing touchdowns and needs two to become the seventh member of the club. Alexander can become the third player in the 2000s – joining MARSHALL FAULK (2004) and LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON (2006) – to reach 100 rushing touchdowns, marking the first decade to have three players accomplish the feat. In the 1980s and 1990s, two players in each decade scored their 100th rushing touchdown. A breakdown by decade for the seven players with 100 career rushing touchdowns: DECADE NO. PLAYERS (YEAR) 2000s 2 Marshall Faulk (2004), LaDainian Tomlinson (2006) 1990s 2 Marcus Allen (1995), Emmitt Smith (1996) 1980s 2 John Riggins (1985), Walter Payton (1986) 1970s 0 -- 1960s 1 Jim Brown (1965) RUN STOPS HERE: The Pittsburgh Steelers have not allowed a 100-yard rusher since Week 12 of the 2005 season, a string of 26 consecutive games and the longest current streak in the NFL. This Sunday night, the Steelers will travel to Denver to face the Broncos, who have averaged an NFL-best 141.5 rushing yards per game since 1995, MIKE SHANAHAN’s first season as head coach. All three of Norwood’s TDs have been for at least 60 yards rushing. He is only the third player in history to start his career with three rushing touchdowns of 60 or more yards. This Sunday, when the Falcons travel to New Orleans, Norwood can become the first player to rush for at least 60 yards on each of his first four career touchdowns.
