Jax/ Indy Thursday Winner and Injuries Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars
When the Colts come into Jacksonville Municipal Stadium tonight they come in as the hottest team in the NFL. Indy has not lost since October winning their last 7 games in a row and come off impressive back to back home wins outscoring their opponents 66-24. Peyton Manning who was clearly nursing an injury in the beginning of the season is looking like his old self and will be in the MVP discussion. With a win the Colts will lock up yet another playoff berth, the longest streak in the NFL ,and will be among the favorites to make the Super Bowl in a wide open AFC. But with all the good you can say about the Colts there are always arguments against them and some good points to take. Although they won 7 in a row there is just one quality win in that bunch. They beat 6 non-playoff teams (Clev, Det, Cinn, SD, and Hou) and New England who may not make the playoffs themselves. Last week against the winless Lions they let up an astonishing 421 yards of offense and were tied in the 4th quarter with them. Star center Jeff Saturday is questionable for the game, Joseph Addai is banged up, Marvin Harrison is doubtful and Bob Sanders is just probable. The Jaguars season has been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL this year. Thought to be fighting for a spot in Tampa the Jags have crumbled and even coach Jack Del Rio has been mentioned as being replaced. Jacksonville went 11-5 last year and now is out of the playoffs and trying to salvage any positives from this dreadful season. They beat Green Bay last week to show some life after weeks of looking like they have given up. If they beat the Colts it will be a season sweep and something to build on for next year. In September Josh Scobee hit a 51 yard field goal to win the game in Indy 23-21. Some trends that stick out in this game are the Colts have beaten the Jags 3 of the last 4 in Jacksonville including a 29-7 win last year there. The Colts although winning the past 3 weeks have actually averaged less yards per game than the Jags. Indy has forced 5 fumbles in the past 2 games. Giving 7 to a division opponent on the road on a national tv game is never good. Jacksonville is also 9-3-1 ATS as a home dog.
I will look more at the total for this game. In Jacksonville's last 3 games they are averaging 15.7 ppg and have not gotten their run game going. But they did find that a success against the Colts the last time out when Taylor and Drew each rushed for over 100 yards and they controlled the clock and the game. On the flip side the Colts have had a very hard time establishing the run without Addai but will have to continue pressing the issue with the defensive backs the Jags bring into the game. Add to that linebacker Mike Peterson is back after a 2 game suspension and the defense should be pumped at home. The weather will be a perfect Florida night at around 75 degrees with a 65% chance of showers. For more injury news , trends and weather call a that message at 1-888-850-8211. With the return of Peterson and the Colts being outgained the past few weeks I am looking at the UNDER. I think if your the Jags you have to keep Manning off the field and look to control the clock like they did in the first meeting and won with that gameplan. Look for time to be drained early and keep the Indy possesions to a minimum. I say take the UNDER and expect it to stay in the mid 30's never having to worry. |
