Arrow Bodog Post Odds on Winter Olympics

February 8, 2006

With less than a week to go before the opening ceremonies for the Torino Winter Olympics, the Bodog.com Sportsbook is offering odds on a number of events, including opportunities to wager on which country will walk away with the most gold medals. The United States is a top contender at 11/5 odds.

Among the top American contenders is alpine skier Bode Miller, who's known as much for his outrageous behavior off the slopes as for his prowess on the powder. Miller is a contender in five events and will likely go off as the favorite in each.

In figure skating, world championship bronze-medalist Evan Lysacek is expected to attempt th e quad toe-triple, toe-double loop in the men's
free skate, a combination that - if landed - would be worth 14.5 base value points in the new scoring system. If successful, the Illinois-born Lysacek would likely win gold. One of his contenders will be countryman Johnny Weir, the three-time and reigning U.S. champion. On the ladies' side, Michelle Kwan returns for her third Olympic Games (fourth, counting Lillehammer where she served as an alternate).

Of course, one of the highlights of the Winter Olympics will be the men's ice hockey tournament, featuring National Hockey League stars. Defending champion Canada is favored by the bookmakers at 11/10 odds. As for the other top contenders: Czech Republic is at 5/2 odds; Sweden at 4/1 odds; USA at 9/2 odds; and Russia at 5/1 odds.

"These Olympics promise to be a riveting spectacle. Bodog.com is happy to offer another opportunity for sports fans and bettors to have a stake in one of the world's greatest events," says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com. "If the overall growth of the sportbook is any indication, we can expect a large amount of betting action on Olympic wagers, particularly our popular props."

Bodog.com is offering an opportunity for bettors to wager on men's and women's curling; men's alpine - downhill; and the over/under on medal counts for countries such as Russia, Norway, the United States, Canada and others.

In the 2002 Salt Lake Games, Norway stole the show with 13 gold medals. Germany came a close second with 12, while the United States landed 10 gold medals.
