Report: MLB investigating Bonds

New York, NY (Sports Network) - San Francisco Giants superstar outfielder Barry Bonds is being investigated by Major League Baseball, according to a published report.

The New York Daily News, citing anonymous sources, says the league is looking into Bonds' relationships and activities. The report adds that baseball security officials believe Bonds could be at risk of conviction over allegations of tax fraud.

Bonds, who is in third place on baseball's all-time home run list with 703, has yet to play this season as he recovers from multiple knee surgeries. However, Bonds' recovery is also being criticized as he has been using his own doctors and trainers.

The 40-year-old Bonds had three knee surgeries performed by Dr. Albert Ting, a surgeon who has been reprimanded twice by the California state medical board. The Arizona Republic reported recently that Ting is on probation for "unprofessional conduct."

Bonds has another questionable relationship with longtime friend and personal trainer Greg Anderson, whose home was raided by law enforcement agents as part of the investigation of an alleged steroid distribution ring involving Victor Conte, founder of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO).
