| Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has signed a new six-year contract worth nearly $60 million with the team. According to The Boston Globe, the new deal replaces the final two years Brady had left on his previous contract and runs through the 2010 season. The three-time Super Bowl winner and two-time Super Bowl MVP had been scheduled to earn base salaries of $5.5 million in 2005 and $6 million in 2006. On Saturday night at the Celtics/Pacers game, Patriots vice chairman Jonathan Kraft was quoted as saying "We are incredibly excited to have signed someone who has embodied our franchise. Tom is a great leader, on and off the field. We are excited he will be with us at least through 2010 -- or beyond." Under the new pact, the 27-year-old Brady reportedly will receive a $14.5 million signing bonus and a $12 million option bonus that is due in spring 2006. He will earn base salaries of $1 million in 2005, $4 million in 2006, $6 million in 2007, $5 million in 2008, $2.3 million in 2009 and $3.5 million in 2010. Each of the final three years of the contract include a $3 million roster bonus. A sixth-round draft choice of the Patriots in 2000, the Michigan product improved his postseason record to 9-0 as an NFL quarterback with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX this past February. He also guided New England to victories in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII, earning MVP honors in both of those contests. Brady's 48-14 regular-season record gives him the best winning percentage (.774) among quarterbacks with a minimum of 40 starts in the Super Bowl era. Joe Montana (117-47) is second with a .713 winning percentage. For his career, Brady has completed 1,243-of-2,018 passes for 13,925 yards and 97 touchdowns with 52 interceptions. He has also started 71 consecutive games. 05/08 09:38:51 ET powered by www.sportsnetwork.com. |
