| Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Miguel Olivo homered and drove in two runs to lead the Seattle Mariners over the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, in the finale of a three-game series. Red Sox leftfielder Manny Ramirez hit his 400th career home run in the loss, a three-run blast off Mariners starter Gil Meche in the fifth inning. Ramirez became the 39th player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 400-homer plateau. His blast trimmed a four-run Seattle lead to one, but the Red Sox didn't score again. "Just another home run," Ramirez said. "That's a great moment in my life, but tomorrow it doesn't mean anything." Meche (3-2) picked up the win, snapping a two-start winless streak with six decent innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits, while walking three and striking out four. Olivo ended 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Mariners, who took two-of- three against Boston to win the series. Seattle has just three victories in its last 14 games. "The way we've been playing the last few weeks, taking two-of-three against anybody is big," said Mariners manager Mike Hargrove. David Ortiz also homered for the Red Sox, who lost for the second time in six games. Seattle scored four times in the second inning to take the lead for good. Willie Bloomquist and Randy Winn had run-scoring doubles in the inning, while Olivo and Ichiro Suzuki picked up an RBI apiece to give the Mariners their 4-0 advantage. The Red Sox got one run back in the third inning on Ortiz's 10th homer of the season, but Seattle regained its four-run lead in the fourth when Olivo led off with his first home run to make it 5-1. All five Seattle runs were charged to Boston starter Tim Wakefield (4-2), who had a two-game winning streak snapped. The knuckleballer gave up 11 hits and three walks with four strikeouts over seven innings. Ramirez homered to right-center field with two outs in the fifth inning to get Boston within 5-4. Mark Bellhorn and Johnny Damon scored on the blast after they started the inning with consecutive singles. Damon singled leading off the ninth, but Eddie Guardado got three straight outs after that to pick up his 10th save. With Damon on second base, Ramirez flied out to right field to end the game. "My hands are still shaking," Hargrove said. "Everybody was on the edge of their seat, obviously." 05/15 23:42:07 ET powered by www.sportsnetwork.com. |

| I've watched a lot of baseball over the last 30 years and this guy is hands down one of the best hitters I've seen. Hits for average, hits for power, uses the whole field and he's one of the best 2 strike hitters in the game. I say nice going Manny! This guy's gonna have some sick #'s when it's all over.
