| Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - Veteran wide receiver Troy Brown has re-signed with the New England Patriots, the only team he has played for in 12 NFL seasons. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but various reports Sunday had it as a one-year contract. Brown's latest deal expired after the 2004 season and the Patriots opted not to pay him a $2.5 million roster bonus in March. Doing so would also have executed a $2.5 million salary for next season. An eighth-round draft pick in 1993 out of Marshall, the 5-10 Brown has played a major role in New England's three Super Bowl titles over the past four years. This past season, Brown was asked to play both offense and defense, helping a secondary depleted by injuries. His offensive numbers suffered, as he caught only 17 passes for 184 yards with one touchdown. However, he also recorded three interceptions as New England's nickel back over the final nine contests of the regular season and all three playoff games. Brown owns the Patriots' single-season record with 101 receptions set in the club's first Super Bowl winning year of 2001, and he is third in franchise history with 475 career catches. He is also the team's all-time leading return specialist with 4,386 combined kickoff and punt return yards. 05/23 14:32:05 ET powered by www.sportsnetwork.com. |
