| New York, NY (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell was named the National League Player of the Week for the period of May 16-22. Burrell, who captured the weekly honor for the second time this season, led the league with a .950 slugging percentage and was tied for the NL lead with 19 total bases. In six contests last week, he batted .500 with two homers and eight runs batted in. Burrell also registered a .615 on-base percentage and stroked three doubles, as the Phillies went 4-2. Other nominees for the award included Burrell's teammates Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle. Abreu captured the honor last week. Also considered were David Wright, Jose Reyes, Mike Piazza and Kris Benson of the New York Mets; Javier Vazquez of the Diamondbacks; Florida's Juan Encarnacion and Alex Gonzalez; Albert Pujols of the Cardinals; Derek Lowe and Cesar Izturis of the Dodgers; Pittsburgh's Tike Redman; Milwaukee's Brady Clark and Geoff Jenkins; San Francisco's Ray Durham; and Colorado's Garrett Atkins and Joe Kennedy. 05/23 16:09:50 ET powered by www.sportsnetwork.com. |
