Rahman wants Klitschko!
Rock doesn't want Vitali to escape mandatory
Former WBC/IBF heavyweight champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman continued his assault on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko by announcing he will host a media workout "where Chicken Kiev will be served." "The Rock," Klitschko's mandatory challenger, has had three fight dates against Vitali postponed this year: April 30 (postponed due to Vitali's jogging thigh injury); June 18 (postponed when Vitali needed more time to recover from the jogging injury); and July 23 (postponed when Vitali underwent minor back surgery). Klitschko's unavailability has prompted the WBC to sanction a interim heavyweight title fight between Rahman and Monte Barrett on August 13 (televised on SHOWTIME PPV). The winner has agreed to face Klitschko the following month, on September 24. The Klitschko camp, however, has been seeking to make that fight an optional defense.

EXCLUSIVE
“Too Sharp” says "Too Late!"
By Flattop
“They must really believe I am a journeyman,” commented three-time world champion Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson when explaining why he turned down a July 16th rematch with WBO jr bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel. “Don’t offer me a world championship fight ten days before the fight. I would love to fight Montiel again but have some respect. Give me four weeks and I will beat the **** out of anyone!” Johnson was contacted on Wednesday afternoon to replace former champion Eric Morel who was scheduled to fight Montiel on the televised undercard of next Saturday’s pay-per-view featuring Bernard Hopkins vs. Jermain Taylor. Morel will most likely be suspended this week by the NSAC this week due a “no contest” plea he has entered in regards to charges of second-degree sexual assault of a child.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’ve already beat the guy (Montiel), so you know that I am not afraid to fight him again,” Johnson observed. “He knows he can’t beat me. That’s probably why they figured they would ask me (on short notice).” Johnson decisioned Montiel in August 2003 to capture the WBO super flyweight title. “There was a rematch clause (with Montiel) and I would have loved a rematch (then) but his people didn’t want the fight.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Johnson is targeting the jr bantam and bantamweight champions. Along with wanting to fight Montiel again, Johnson wants IBF 115-pound champ Luis Perez. “Anyone of them can get a piece of me, I ain’t too hard to find.” Johnson first won the IBF flyweight title back in May 1996. He then captured the vacant IBF super flyweight crown in May 1999. Johnson’s victory over Montiel made him one of a handful of Triple Crown champions in boxing. “All I want are champions,” outlined Johnson. Johnson has been invited to join the training camps of Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah in preparation of their September 13th showdown on a Don King Productions event. Always thinking of becoming champion again, Johnson instructed this reporter: “(Luis) Perez is Don’s champion. Tell Don I want to fight Perez on the same card.”

BREAKING NEWS
NSAC to suspend Eric Morel
By Flattop
It is anticipated that 1996 Olympian and former WBA flyweight champion Eric Morel will be suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday due to his recent “no contest” plea to second-degree sexual assault of a child. The case stems from an alleged assault of a fifteen year-old female that occurred on December 1, 2002, in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. In anticipation of the suspension, Morel was scratched on Wednesday from his July 16th pay-per-view showdown with WBO jr bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel. Morel's half brother, Frederick Santos Perez, and his older brother, Samuel Morel, are also charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child in regards to the same incidence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morel was allowed to fight in Nevada back in March because he had initially entered a plea of “not guilty” in July 2004 in reference to the criminal charges. In June of this year, Morel changed his plea from "not guilty" to "no contest" as part of a plea bargain in hopes of avoiding prison time. The plea of “no contest” means that the Morel does not admit to the crime, but he does not dispute it either.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The plea of “no contest” dramatically changed the status of Morel in the eyes of the NSAC. Morel was “presumed innocent until proven guilty” with his initial plea of “not guilty” but a “no contest” plea has the same effect as a plea or verdict of “guilty” in the criminal court system. According to the rules and regulations of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NAC 467.887): “A license issued by the Commission may be suspended if the holder is arrested or convicted on a charge involving moral turpitude.” A panel of three NSAC board members made the recommendation to suspend Morel on Wednesday but the approval of the NSAC chairman is required. NSAC chairman Raymond "Skip" Avansino Jr. was traveling overseas but he will be back in Vegas on Thursday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eric Gomez, the matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, stated to FightNews that he has three names under consideration to fight WBO jr. bantamweight champion Montiel and he hopes to make an announcement today.

Ring legend will see Camachos, son in action
Julio Cesar Chavez will be on hand when former foe Hector Camacho faces Frankie Sanchez on Saturday night at the Tucson Convention Center. REPORT
Guzman denies wrongdoing!
Ex-champ willing to testify against former manager
Jose Nuñez, manager of former WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Joan Guzman, stated earlier this afternoon that Guzman had nothing to do with the false allegations filed against WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel in the Dominican Republic. All charges against Valcarcel were dropped by the Dominican justice system as of yesterday. Guzman was named as a key player in the fabrication of the charges against Valcarcel. "Although Guzman had some knowledge of what his former manager, Rafael Guerrero, was planning against Valcarcel, Guzman took no part in the actual development of these charges or events," stated Nuñez. Guzman’s manager went on to say, "Guzman was under a lot of stress when Rafael Guerrero was guiding his career and witnessed many events that he would have never partaken in on his own. This and other events led to the break from Guerrero."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guzman currently training for his initial bout as a featherweight on August 26th, 2005, in White Plains, New York, made it clear that he is willing to testify against his former manager to clear his own name of any charges. Nuñez finished by saying, "We regret all the pain and suffering that Mr. Valcarcel and his family have endured within the past year and Guzman and I are willing to do anything within our power to rectify the situation." Guzman, who has vacated his WBO super bantamweight belt, will next face number #1 WBO featherweight Terdsak Jandaeng.
