Cotto headed to Big Apple!
It's Cotto Week in New York City as world champion Miguel Cotto will hit the Big Apple on Wednesday. He will be at courtside for a NBA New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, then be at the Top Rank press conference Thursday, when Top Rank will officially announce that Cotto will take on the last fighter who defeated him, Olympic gold medalist Muhammad Abdullaev, in a scorching main event at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 11. Abdullaev, who defeated Cotto at the 2000 Olympic Games, will be at the Garden press conference. Also attending will be former world champion Joel Casamayor and undefeated lightweight sensation Kid Diamond. Casamayor and Diamond will box 12 rounds in an eliminator, getting into the Garden ring just before Cotto takes on Abdullaev. Cotto, 23-0, 19 KOs, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, will defend his WBO junior welterweight title against Abdullaev. "Looking back, I really thought I did enough to beat Abdullaev at the Olympic Games," Cotto said. "Let's see what happens on June 11."
