Default poker question

What's a good stragety for putting someone away when it's down to the last 2 in hold 'em.
The last 2 weeks I've found myself in the final 2 with a good chip lead and had the guy nickle & dime me back to even. I just couldn't get the hand to put him away and when I did I couldn't get the fucking guy to go all in.
I won once & lost once but he almost caught me twice. I'm thinking push push push with a chip lead but you need the cards to do it.

I welcome anyones 2 cents.

Yeah John, I find myself in these situations also. When its heads up or down to the last 2, I usually try to control the tempo by being somewhat aggressive. When I have the position, I usually take chances and show no mercy. If I do catch a really good hand like a high pair, I usually take my time and simple check, then follow lead, then bang on the end. It all has to really do in what the situation is, but I usually try and control the action when its heads up. The most important thing to do in heads up is to not show weakness, either bet or check and raise, never check twice. Have a good day!!

Hey I always play agresive with a nice chip lead heads up you just have to be carefull you dont want to keep double up the other player. Get in all cheap pots heads up but if other player is all in or makes big raise sometimes you gotta get out even if you do have chip lead. my 2 cents. GL [/u]

I'm not a poker player so take this w a grain of salt. That being said, if I were playing and had a huge chip lead on a guy, my strategy would be to bully him. Even if you don't have the cards, if you bet big he won't be able to keep up, once in a while he will have the cards and go all in to call you and might take the pot, but most of the time he will either have to fold because he knows if he loses he is done, or go all in just to play the hand and you'll have a good shot at taking him down. If you play conservative you give him a chance to nickel and dime you and get back in the game, just my 2 cents. Poker is something I definately want to get into, am thinking of making a trip to AC later this yr to play some poker and BJ

I was out early last night but watched a friends hands, there were several he could have taken down with a check/raise when it was 1 on 1.
I watched em both check to each other several times when any substantial bet would have taken the pot.
I got burned myself check/raising late but it was more a case of misreading the other guy.

the education continues
