Who to Play for Friday’s Games

Germany +175 vs. Argentina +165

This should be a game for the ages, as both teams are playing their best soccer and neither has lost a game yet. Argentina has dominated the tournament so far, scoring 10 goals and only letting in 2. Their star midfielder, Riquelme has been effective all tournament and he might be the difference in this game. If Riquelme is on his game, Argentina should win; if he isn’t it might be a long day for the blue and white. Germany on the other hand has surprised everyone with their exceptional ball and the host country has scored 10 goals and also let in only 2. As expected, these teams are very evenly matched and it will come down to a game of defensive. Sure, Ballack and Klose will be key to Germany advancing, however it is their unsung backfield that has outplayed everyone. If Metzelder and Mertesacker stand tall and hold Requelme in check, Germany might pull the upset and take Argentina out.

I think this will be a closely contested affair, ending 1-1 at the end of regulation play. BetWWTS has the draw up at +190 and that will be my play for the day. I also like the Under 2.5 -170, but that is a lot of chalk so my focus will be on the Draw. I can see Germany winning this game in Penalty kicks with a possible result similar to the UEFA Championship League ending this past year.

Italy -165 vs Ukraine +550

Before I get into this matchup, let it be said, that Italy is in this game, because a Ref (who couldn’t cut it as a player) decided to change the tournament. As a North American, if you want to know why soccer will never make it here – watch Italy dive around like pansies, holding their shins grimacing in pain. Watch the ref’s single handily change outcomes of games, largely on controversial calls. If you want to know why soccer will never make it in America, the Aus vs Italy game says it all. I am still completely annoyed with that result, but I guess it is time to get over it.

Italy was barely able to beat Australia and now they are playing a team that can score. However, with that said, most teams who end up winning it all, have a game like the Australia game and sneak by. I expect this game to be a contest of opposites. The boring, conservative, never scoring Italians vs. the aggressive, physical and attacking Ukraine team. This should be a fun game to watch but a real hard game to bet. I personally like Italy here, but will not lay -165 that BetWWTS is offering. The under looked good at first, but I don’t want to lay -220 on the Under 2.5. I suggest you lay off this game and enjoy it, as there is no value here. If anything, take the Ukraine at +550 and see if they can pull a big upset.
