| insane rule change by the ATP tour; will be a go for the fall season, not sure exactly when in starts. Nutty if you ask me, almost like round robin tennis at your local club. makes doubles wagering, UNwagereable, is that a word? hehe......; Doubles Jeopardy: ATP Announces Plan To Shorten Doubles Sets By Tennis Week 07/01/2005 The ATP announced a new scoring system that will shrink doubles sets. Doubles matches at many fall tournaments will feature no-ad games and sets played to five games rather than six, with a tie-break at 4-4, the ATP announced today. Possible set scores will be 5-0, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-4. While the ATP is selling the new scoring system as "enhancements to doubles designed to appeal to fans and better showcase the tandem game", some players aren't buying it. Todd Woodbridge, who owns the Open Era record for most doubles titles with 83, suggested the ATP's decision devalues doubles by adopting a scoring system that is not approved by the International Tennis Federation. "I'm very disappointed with our council, so much so that I think they all should resign because they've gone ahead and made changes without even asking what the rest of the tennis world thinks," Woodbridge said. "They've made a scoring system that doesn't even exist. It's not an approved system by the International Tennis Federation. They've gone and made a decision against what the players also wish. Even the top singles players are scratching their head at this decision. It's disappointing. Perhaps with that in mind I've also timed it pretty well." |

| Wow what a horrible rule change, they are gonna catch a lot of heat for that. I can't see the players liking those new rules, unless you're a player playing in both singles and doubles and progressing through the singles in the tourneys, as itll cut down on the tennis you have to play...no ad games? jesus yeah no more doubles betting IMO, glad to see you back here, hope things are good

Yeah Tommy, gogin to the Sat and Sun qualifying rounds--want to see some of these 'unknowns', in qualies up front, will see the big gals for sure on the Wed of that week, may try to get out another day on that week. naught, yep nuts--no ad games? hilarious--what is this a school yard pick up game? here's Lleyton boys........ Which was your biggest mischief when a child ? I was practising hitting golf balls on my front lawn and accidentally hit and smashed my neighbour’s window. i think Lleyton may be a few french fries short of a happy meal |

| thks for the avatar Tommy!!! HE"S THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! actually the more i think about this rule change the more one has to like HUGE dogs when this is implemented in Oct or so; Doubles matches yield FEW breaks of serves, often decided by a few precious points. With no ad games and a tie-break at 4-4, it becomes 'almost' a crap shoot. NO way ANY doubles team (includign the Bryan brothers) should be a -700 to -1000. The comeback will be a crazy number. Books may not adjust these lines once the rules' change comes to effect; i 'think' huge dogs may have some value, will be interesting to see; lay say small coin on 3 huge dogs, onyl one has to come thru, with these changes you got a shot. thoughts? |
