| Roddick blew a match point in the third set and growing visibly ill - collapsed against Andrei Pavel, 6-7 (2-7), 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2, 6-4, in the opener of the United States' best-of-five Davis Cup tie against Romania on Friday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Roddick was stunned in the first round of last year's U.S. Open by Gilles Muller and had a disappointing fourth-round exit to Marcos Baghdatis in the Australian Open last month, but this may have been his most painful defeat. What is up with him? Does he even care anymore? |

| problem lies with his backhand.......once someone attacks his backhand on consistent basis, he loses his temper which leads to unforced errors and causes him to lose focus within the match....seen it too many times. He really needs to drop that 2 handed backhand and go with Pete Sampras and Fedex convention starting soon or his career will drop drastically. Pete Sampras also had this problem, after he went from 2 handed backhand to 1.....He won the US OPEN and openned up alot more opportunites in his career..... also, instead of always going for winners, he needs to set up pts by keeping the balls in the court and when he gets the other players on the defensive side, then ,he can attack with his powerful forehand.....Tennis is 50% mental game and his losing the mental battle on the court, unfrotunately.

| a complete disaster Tommy. Apparently he was ill today and needed I.V fluids. Noetheless, close out that match in the 3rd. Give him credit, he went down fighting even despite being sick--not like that IDIOT at the women's Aussie Open--wont even name that classless clown things wont get better for Andy any time soon. He got rid of Goldfine and hires his brother as his coach-- good grief. good points Happy. I don't think he will ever abort that two-handed backhand, tho. He's not a natural. That would be way too demanding for him to do at this age. Agree with you, he doesn't build a point up well--not much between this guys ears, IMHO. Marcos REALLY exposed him at Melbourne Park. He never adjusted and just drifted 3-5 feet behind the baseline and wathced Marcos rip winner after winner to the tune of over 60!!!! insanity... just my-2 cents. Good thing James won today. Cmon American tennis let's get going. Spian is in a world of hurt at the moment, that has to be stunning. Ferrer loses today to Voltchkov in straights? WOW |

| I agree, Roddick needs to have another aresenal in his game besides his serve and his serve setting up the forehand winners. He needs to take a page out of Safin's book and work on that backhand. |
