| I came across this and it caught my attention. The match was a little strange, as well as the odd: "Punters and bookmakers are crying foul once again after another suspect match was completed on Monday in Houston. The match involved a familiar figure - Argentinean Mariano Puerta, playing Austrian Jurgen Melzer. Puerta, who had a 15-5 clay record on the year and seven straight wins before a third round loss to Volandri in Monte-Carlo, had originally been posted up as a short-priced favourite with bookies. But as always, a fast moving Betfair market was the first indication that something was amiss. Puerta drifted from 1.25 out to as much as 5.10 with the betting exchange at the same time as Melzer was backed from 2.82 into 1.20 before a ball was even served. A staggering figure in excess of AUD$600,000 was traded on the match. Bookmakers were believed to suffer minimal damage, having been quick notice the movement and take the match off their boards. Puerta has been involved in "suspect" matches in the past. It is believed that rumours were circulating prior to his match that he was not arriving in Houston until one and a half hours before his scheduled match." Hmmm, when I see this all I can think of is never again ![]()
