The San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks shooting OVER the total in Game 4 of the NBA Finals all starts with the number. The total sits at around 216.5. Game 3 of this series finished OVER as San Antonio took a 115-111 victory. We saw both teams can produce enough offense in this matchup when the game opens up and allows the stars to draw fouls.
San Antonio’s offense looked fluid in Game 3 as the ball movement returned. The Spurs finished with 28 assists between De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle setting their teammates up. Wemby had 32 points, but Castle scored 23 which took the focus off of him. San Antonio had other options to score when the defense focused on Wembanyama.
New York is in a good spot to bounce back on the offensive end as well. The Knicks put up 111 points in Game 3 with Karl-Anthony Towns being limited to just 11 points. If Towns has a better game for New York, then the Knicks are right back in the 110s with Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby continuing to attack the basket the way they did in Game 3.
Lastly, the flow of Game 4 should set up the OVER in late-game situations. New York leads the series 2-1, but San Antonio has momentum after winning Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. If Game 4 is close once again, both teams are going to play their stars until the game is over. They will attack the rim and fill the paint which should lead to teams extending the last minute of the game on fouls and free throws. That’s what will ultimately push this total in OVER the number.
Jim's Play: 507. Spurs/Knicks OVER
enough logical angles as a money-line pick tonight. The Knicks still lead the series 2-1, so we’re looking at a massive bounce-back spot at Madison Square Garden after San Antonio stole Game 3, 115-111. New York is still the favorite and the money line shows the market still views them as the more likely winner at home.
Game 3 was far from a clean performance for the Knicks, but they still only lost by four points. New York struggled with ball movement all night long, finished with just 18 assists on the night and had 13 turnovers the Spurs converted into 21 points. Fix those turnovers and get back to more Brunson-driven half-court execution with optimal spacing and the Knicks can quickly turn a one-possession game around in their favor.
Also continuing to support Knicks takes as a money-line pick is the supporting-cast bounce-back prop. Both Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges were quieter than the Knicks need them to be for Game 3 success, while putting too much of the scoring burden on Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby. Expect both Towns and Bridges to have big nights at home as the Knicks look to make sure they don’t go back to San Antonio down in the series. New York gets Towns touches early and finds Bridges on offense while locking in defensively.
San Antonio is scary because Victor Wembanyama went off for 32 points and Stephon Castle added 23, but expecting those young Spurs to win consecutive Finals games at Madison Square Garden is still asking a lot. The Knicks already won twice in this series, including a close 105-104 Game 2 victory, and New York’s playoff experience gives them the edge late as a money-line pick.
Jim's Play: 508. Knicks (Money Line)
Toronto is the much better team in this matchup against the Sun, so when the Toronto Tempo are laying more than seven points on the road Wednesday, they are a decent bet to cover the spread. Toronto is 6-5 on the season while Connecticut sits with a 2-11 record, the worst record in the league. This game also takes place at Coca- Cola Coliseum in Toronto which further favors the Tempo on the home-court. Toronto is also deeper than Connecticut which makes the matchup gap even larger.
Toronto comes into Wednesday off of one of its better games of the season, beating Chicago 85-68. Brittney Sykes poured in 25 points, Nyara Sabally added 15 points while Isabelle Harrison scored 14 points in her first game back from injury. This all matters because Toronto has been playing without Kiki Rice lately, but they showed the ability to generate offense without just having one player take over a game.
Connecticut is always scrappy, but the Sun still haven’t figured out how to close games out or defend for all four quarters. They lost their most recent game 89-80 against New York and fell to 2-11 overall. Connecticut shot just 29 percent from three in that game while also only making one of six from beyond the arc in the first quarter. Against a Toronto team that has more weapons on offense and will have home momentum, this spells disaster for the Sun.
Toronto just needs to come out flying and force Connecticut into playing half-court basketball. Let Sykes, Sabally, Mabrey and Harrison all create enough of a lead by halftime and this could turn into a blowout. If Toronto can win the rebounding battle and keep Connecticut from catching up at the free-throw line, there’s a good chance Toronto wins by double digits and covers this spread.
